From the President...

This is our penultimate newsletter...  we will wrap up next week after our presentation events this weekend. I am indeed THANKFUL to our Great God for hearing and answering our prayers for a full season. How good was it? Yes there have been challenges, yes we may have questioned at times, why we do what we do - but at the end of the day - one thing that has stayed constant has been God's blessings on this club.

Tomorrow at our presentation events there will be accolades given and appreciation shown to many individuals, but this is also reflective of the team and the club. On a team there are not 11 players (for 11 a side games), in fact there may be 14 or 15 players that make up that team on the day... so in reality there cannot be a best and fairest player if there is no team. So this is why we acknowledge the participation of ALL our players - without each one of them there would be no team and therefore no game.

I was at a finals game recently and I noted that 16 players got medals for winning the match, BUT here is what I also noticed 3 of those 16 players did not even get on to the field in that match, they sat on the bench for the whole match, and YET these 3 guys celebrated the win just as hard as the other 13 - this is what team sport is about, after all the striker can only score the goal if the ball is passed to him/her by the other players.

I sincerely hope that each of you will be able to look back at this season and be thankful for the opportunity to connect and grow in community and to do that around a common interest of soccer. Maybe there were things that did not quite meet your expectations, my question is - will you be willing to come back and work with me and our committee to improve those areas. I hope your answer is "yes".

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our JUNIOR PRESENTATION TOMORROW - we begin at 9.00am and will end at 12.30pm. As a suggestion you may want to consider parking down Bunjil Way in the Athletics carpark and walking across the pitches to the clubrooms, as parking may be a little crowded in our regular parking areas.

Also please don't forget if your child is between 6 - 14 years of age, they are welcoome to sign up to the Melbourne Victory Masterclass which will be held at Knox Park next Friday 23 September from 10am - 3pm. The whole session will be run by Melbourne Victory coaches and staff, we will also be running our canteen on the day... if you wish to register click here - BOOK NOW also remember all KCSC players get a 25% discount but YOU MUST enter the code KNOX25 at Checkout and BEFORE finalising payment.

I am also looking forward to seeing all our senior players tomorrow night at the Senior Presentation event..

See you tomorrow

Blessings

AULD LANG SYNE

ORIGINAL                                                      TRANSLATION

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,             Should old acquaintances be forgotten
And never brought to mind?                          And never be remembered?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,             Should old acquaintances be forgotten
And auld lang syne!                                        and days long ago

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my jo,                        For days long ago, my dear
For auld lang syne,                                  For days long ago
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet                 We'll drink a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne.                                  For days long ago!

And surely you'll be your pint stoup,            And surely you'll have your pint tankard
And surely I'll be mine,                                And surely I'll have mine.
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet              And we'll drink a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne!                                      For days long ago.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere,             And here's my hand, my trusty friend,
And gie's a hand o' thine,                            And give me your hand too,
And we'll tak a right gude willie waught   And we will take an excellent good-will drink
For auld lang syne!                                      For days long ago.

A couple of weeks ago I was in a restaurant with a bunch of great friends and talking of big things to come.
New Line-marking equipment, a new kit supplier, the car park was being enlarged and surfaced to a far higher standard and the area in front of the rooms was being levelled, drained and properly turfed and resurfaced (though sadly this did preclude the possibility of seeing David Dunlop outside vacuuming the puddles so the Junior programs could go ahead without requiring lane marshalls and diving blocks!)

It WAS a couple of weeks ago wasn’t it? Surely not! And yet the situation informs me differently. I have spent a great deal of time in hospital and had to miss much of my beloved club play – I missed seeing all those friends! Games have been played and lost and SO many teams went SO close to the ultimate prize – but SELFLESSNESS is one of our values so we can’t REALLY expect to win everything every year – Doesn’t it? There was, however some spectacular play to watch. One goal will stay with me forever, though I’ll not embarrass the lad involved – Thankyou God for that talent. Not just in his abilities but in the whole club. Thank You God for the ladies who week-in / week-out fired up the canteen and kept us fed, David and his lovely wife who came every week to make sure we had great coffee; the volunteer coaches, managers, linemarkers etc ad infinitum.

But here’s the beautiful ending:

We get to do it all again next year!

The song above gets sung every New Year’s Eve across the globe and it’s always been a mournful and emotional call for people not to forget one another – and yet it’s not that at all. Not even close.
Auld Lang Syne is a call to remember those we are with as well as those we knew but even more it is a warning that it could all slip away if we do no continue to remember to ‘stay in touch’. It is a call to the future that although this has been a good/great/horrid year we have others coming and that though I’ll “tak my pint stoup” with you; I expect to be doing the same thing next year (If not next week).

This week is not the ending of the year: we still have presentations to get through which, as far as I am concerned are the first steps to introducing the 2023 season opener – it’s only a few weeks away (I only started playing cricket to get my mind off waiting for football to kick off again) and then we’ll have more talks about kit and line-marking and canteen needs, coaches, managers and so on – and then we get to do it again.
Our Scripture encourages in this attitude also. In 1 John: Jesus says – “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”  1 John 5:14
In his letter to the Hebrews Paul wrote: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us”   Hebrews 12:1
and the book of Psalms encourages us: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”   Psalm 32:8
God will keep us going and bring us to the point where today is one of those of “Lang Syne

Happy 2022 – Bring on 2023
