Greetings and Happy Fall!

Hello friends and family! We hope you all had a wonderful summer and are enjoying the transition to fall. Please enjoy these updates and pictures and remember to keep us in your prayers. We are thankful for you!

Summer Highlights

With the rain, heat, and paucity of fun places to visit, summer here was a bit of a challenge. Even so, the Lord helped us to persevere and find joy in the small things. Some highlights include a one-month pool pass that provided exercise and relief from the heat, playing wiffle ball, and finding fun with the kids at Home of Love. Jess and our kids continued home school this summer, and the structure and routine were helpful for everyone. Later, we officially celebrated the start of a new year with our 4th grader, 2nd grader and Kindergartner!

Waiting on our visas... still

Our previous visas expired at the end of June, and the process to renew them has been going on since that time. The lengthy delay is mostly because every 5 years our NGO has to re-apply for permission to work here. The application process is very involved and carefully reviewed by the pertinent authorities. Please pray for approval so that we can move forward with renewing our visas. Also, our teammates Jay and Beryl need visas before they can return to the country. They have been away since mid-April and had hoped to return at the end of September.

TL: Jess baking a cake with some HOL girls for the bi-monthly birthday celebration. TR: A glimpse of shopping here. We can find gems from the garment factories. BL: The basketball court outside our house became a pond at the peak of rainy season. BR: Jess and the kids were able to visit other American families who serve at a large hospital compound. Specific highlights were the pool and the English-speaking friendships.

Clinic Updates

Rabies Vaccine Blitz - one of our regular mobile clinic sites provides education and sewing training for girls from a slum community. Sadly, one of the girls was recently bitten by a stray dog and required an extensive protocol of injections for rabies prevention. She didn't have any serious harm, but the scare prompted the education center to seek our help in vaccinating the other girls and staff (about 46 people in all). Because stray dogs are so prevalent throughout the country, it was nice to be able to help them address a tangible need with high-value preventative care.

Regular Clinic Scott continues to serve as interim medical director for Faith Clinic while Dr. Jay and Beryl are completing important work in the States as they wait for project approval and visas. Unfortunately, Dr. Rick, the young doctor whom we mentioned previously, has taken a job at another hospital and is no longer working under Scott.

The clinic continues to be busy, but God has been gracious in meeting the needs of the team each day. One young boy from a poor family has visited a number of times and thankfully has had pretty significant improvement in his scaly skin disorder with the use of strong creams (see before and after below).
BL: Scott, Dr. Rick, and a senior medical assistant obtaining knee joint fluid for testing. BR: Mobile clinic team preparing for the rabies vaccine blitz.
Above: most of the clinic staff together for a lunch celebration in the city.
Beneficiaries of a tube well supplying ten families with clean water. This summer, our clinic and NGO oversaw the completion of 9 tube wells and 11 latrines in a poor fishing village where we regularly visit for mobile clinic. Standing next to Scott is the laboratory supervisor of our clinic. He doubled as community and government liaison by overseeing a complex web of requirements and tasks for completion of this water and sanitation hygiene (WASH) project.

For Praise and Prayer

-Pray for NGO project approval that would result in visas for our family and for Jay and Beryl.

-Please pray for our conversations and teaching time with Home of Love children. That we could really encourage them and be a part of their spiritual maturation.

-Praise God that our kids are playing better with the Home of Love children. We are thankful that baseball has been a great way to play together.

Thank You!

We are so thankful for your continued support, prayers, and encouragement. Please send us a message or email. We would love to hear from you!
