THRIVING THROUGH CHANGE EXPO

The Sunshine Coast Council Economic Development team would like to express big thanks to exhibitors, presenters and attendees for making the 2022 Thriving Through Change business expo a success!

An experienced program of speakers and over 35 exhibitors provided advice, support and insight to over 350 attendees over the span of the expo. The expo brought together the Sunshine Coast business community to discover the expansive network of support available to help build resilience and the opportunities for growth. The venue was a buzz of energy as attendees engaged with exhibitors and connected with other local businesses.

The expo may be over, but businesses can still find more support to help continue to “thrive” by visiting sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/Business and the following programs:

Sunshine Coast Funding Finder
Build a Better Business Program
Buy Local Sunshine Coast
ASPIRE – circular economy

Keep updated on support opportunities in your locality and industry by connecting with your local Chamber of Commerce and Industry Group. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) is also a vital resource that will provide further assistance.

As always, businesses on the Sunshine Coast can contact us by emailing businessdevelopment@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

On 20 September 2022, changes will come into effect regarding domain names with the launch of .au direct.

If you have a website with a .com.au domain name, (for example www.mybusiness.com.au) you will be able to buy and
register the same business name under a newly available .au direct domain name.

But if you don’t apply for priority access for your .au direct domain name for your business, from 21 September 2022 someone else could buy and register the domain (e.g. www.mybusiness.au). These similar yet different domains could be confusing for your customers.

More information about how you can reserve or register your equivalent .au domain name can be found here.

The Garmin Research & Fishing Competition starts tomorrow and is the next generation of competition fishing brought to you by SCF, Suntag & InfoFish Australia. The main focus of these events revolves around the health and wellbeing of our waterways, local fish stocks, and the condition of surrounding catchment areas. Using the SCF Research & Sustainably Smartphone App, they collect valuable data from all types of recreational fishermen/women to get an accurate understanding of the current condition of each location an event is hosted. This information will help determine what impact recreational and commercial fishing currently have on our waterways and the steps we need to take to improve or sustain them.
To celebrate 5 years of SCF events, the research & fishing competition will be a free community event. Join for the 24hr fishing shoot out, compete for the champion angler awards, stacks of giveaways & $5,000 cash
