New IMF Mission Chief for Ghana arrives in Ghana, meets Ofori-Atta, 1st Deputy Governor

The new International Monetary Fund, (IMF) Mission Chief for Ghana, StéphaneRoudet, has visited the first Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Maxwell OpokuAfari, and the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori Atta. Stéphane Roudet arrived in the country after being chosen to lead the IMF mission in Ghana beginning September 1, 2022.

Stéphane Roudet’s arrival comes two days after Kristalina Georgiva, the IMF’s managing director, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to achieving an agreement with the Ghanaian government for an economic program by the end of this year.

ECG incurs US$2.8m ‘extra cost’ in US$6.6m ‘no value for money’ procurement – A-G’s report

The Auditor-General has observed that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) incurred an extra cost of US$2,861,793.00 in procurement with “no consideration for value for money”. Vodafone to be unveiled as new Asante Kotoko headline sponsor

Africa’s leading mobile telecommunications giant, Vodafone has reached a deal with Asante Kotoko to become the new headline sponsor, the local media have reported.

According to the reports, Kotoko Chief Executive Officer [CEO], Nana Yaw Amponsah has concluded talks with officials of Vodafone Ghana for a lucrative sponsorship deal ahead of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.

Cement, iron rod prices up 90%, 60% in 2yrs

The cost of essential building materials has seen another sharp increase over the past week, prompting calls for government to develop mechanisms that will keep prices stable. Cement prices shot up nearly 15 percent from GH¢63 per bag to GH¢72 last week, while a tonne of iron rod has also gone up by GH¢400.

Instagram fined €405m over children’s data privacy

Irish regulators have fined Instagram €405m for violating children’s privacy. The long-running complaint concerned children’s data – particularly their phone numbers and email addresses. Some reportedly upgraded to business accounts to access analytics tools such as profile visits, without realising this made more of their data public.
