Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic History Month begins tomorrow in the U.S.! Although Latinas in tech represent less than 2% of the U.S. workforce and less than 10% in Latin America, Women Who Code knows this is not an indicator of their impact but a gap in opportunities. We acknowledge their contributions to advancements in the tech industry starting with leaders in our own community.

Throughout our community of 320,000 members globally and 11 Latin American Networks and Spanish speaking Networks, our members experience your leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to advancement in tech. Your work is being recognized constantly by your company, awards, and applauded by your fellow WWCode community members. Just recently, Luz de Leon was welcomed as the new 2022- 2023 Leadership Fellow for the Front End track. We celebrated Diana Carolina Rozo from the Bogota Network for being nominated for the Globant Awards as a Digital Leader. We recognized Network Directors from Monterrey, Alejandra Melendez Reyes and Wendy Rodriguez, and Merida, Grisel Martinez and Addy Perez who spoke on panels with Accenture as thought leaders.

We will be hosting WWCode’s first Spanish half-day virtual dev conference, CONNECT LATAM, on Thursday, October 13, 2022, with talks, panels, and workshops from industry experts on technical and professional topics.

Women Who Code is a space for you to gain resources, skills, and community in all areas of your career worldwide. Our
blogs, podcast, and on-demand YouTube channel are resources that can be used to grow your knowledge. You can also join a WWCode community or attend one of our digital events to expand your professional network and learn with others in a supportive global community.

Letter to My Younger Self: International Day of the Girl Child
By: Cristina Roncal

Dear 7 Year Old Self,

It is easy to write to you from this point of my life where everything is exciting and falling in place. You might know the path that you will choose will not always be easy. It will be hard sometimes. Believe me, you will go through it and achieve unthinkable goals.

You won’t believe me if I tell you that disassembling electronic devices because you wanted to know what was inside was okay, even though your mom did not like it. Being kind and naive is also okay. Why am I telling you this? It is those things, your curiosity and your big heart which will make you a smart and daring engineer who loves to discover and solve problems to help others. It will also drive you to share your knowledge and lead with amazing and brilliant women.
