Good Morning,
Recently on the way to work, I witnessed some kids waiting for the morning bus and was struck at how engaged and interactive they all were with one another. A few days later, I noticed another set of kids waiting for a different bus, and the scene was drastically different. Every child at this bus stop had their head buried deep into their phone and seemed to be in their own world. They were even standing far apart from each other. As I continued driving I started to think about how different the first group of kids were from the second and how that must have affected the rest of their day and experiences.
Now I understand in today’s world, getting children to unplug and socialize, especially with peers they may not know, is a challenge, but what if your child wanted to unplug more often and engaged in face-to-face communication with others a little more?
How could that help them grow as an individual? What could that do for their mental health? How, as a parent, would you even go about teaching them to better improve their social skills?
In this week’s blog, “Helping Your Kids Unplug and Socialize,” I share more of my story from above and discuss some tips on how to help your child better connect with those around them.
