School Newsletter
8th September 2022

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Our learning leaders and I had a lovely time meeting and engaging new families at our virtual school information session yesterday; we hope the session provided you with more understanding of our early years programme and school practice. Thanks to those who joined us  - and for those of you who missed the session, please click here to watch the recorded session. Thank you and we look forward to more family engagement sessions here at Small World!

We are very saddened to hear about the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last night. We extend our sincere condolences to all our families and friends from the UK and British Commonwealth - our prayers and thoughts are with you. Queen Elizabeth II was a strong woman of great faith, leadership, courage, steadfastness and kindness - a wonderful model for the young (and not-so young!) women to emulate! We are united with you in our prayers; we will miss the beloved Queen Elizabeth II very much!

Health and Safety Measures

Student Vaccination Status & Travel History Declaration

Please complete the online form before the first day your child returns on campus, and whenever there are any updates regarding your child’s vaccination status and travel history during the school year.

Temperature and Rapid-Antigen Test (RAT) Record

Kindly monitor your child/ren’s temperature and Rapid-Antigen Test daily before coming to school, making sure to record and submit his/her results on the online form. Please also inform us of your child’s Vaccine Pass code on this form. This is important to help keep the health and safety of our community and ensure that on-campus school can remain open.

You will also be able to access these forms via the Dashboard.

For more details, please also read through this Health Precautions for Resumption of On Campus School Learning” document carefully in preparation for coming back to school.

School Attendance during “Medical Surveillance” Period

As of 12th August 2022, the Hong Kong government has reduced the quarantine requirement for returning Hong Kong residents to 3 days, with an additional 4 days of medical surveillance. Small World students will be permitted to enter the campus during the medical surveillance period on the condition of a negative RAT result in the morning. Please notify the school if your child/family is under medical surveillance (i.e., “Amber Code”) using the Temperature and RAT record form.

If your child or a member of your family is requested to conduct community testing, you must await a negative test result before entering the school. Please refer to the Covid-19 Risk and Response Matrix for Students of Generations Christian Education for more details.

New Communication Platform at Small World - Hero

We are newly introducing Hero as the online platform for communication between the school, teachers, and our current families at Small World!
Hero has many features which will provide an enhanced learning link between home and school. We will be utilizing these features to keep you better informed about your children's learning experiences as well as school updates & announcements.
We hope that Hero will be a two-way communication platform for parents/caregivers and the school, and we encourage you to actively engage with your child's class teachers.

For those of you who are returning to Small World, Hero will be replacing Tapestry. Tapestry will not be immediately decommissioned so that returning families can continue to have access to the records from previous school years.

This week, our learners were all excited to learn about Hong Kong’s Mid-Autumn Festival. Their teachers, Li Laoshi and Hu Laoshi, shared with them stories about this festival, created mooncake art together, and made lanterns to decorate their homes. It was also so delightful to watch our young learners in their lantern parade with their friends and teachers around their classroom.  I’m sure our young learners  are excited  to look at the moon with their lanterns in tow, sharing yummy mooncakes with their family this weekend. Wishing all our Small World community a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival!

Prayerfully yours,
