START TAKING PRIVATE LESSONS
As of September 9, 2022, the following individuals have been approved by Plainfield School District 202 for Private Music Instruction. These teachers have passed background checks with the school district and are recommended for private instruction. Private instruction typically occurs weekly for 30 minutes (or more) and rates vary from teacher to teacher but tend to be $20-30 per 30 minute lesson.
Private Instruction is recommended for all students learning to play an instrument. This is different than tutoring in an academic subject, which is typically reserved for students who are struggling to succeed in a particular subject area. Prior to the implementation of school music programs, private instruction was the only method for learning an instrument. School music programs are similar to a group lesson in that everyone grows together and learns together in a social setting, but generally lacks in individual instruction on the instrument. Private lessons are a great time for individual growth. Whether your goals are just to get more enjoyment out of playing, majoring in music in college, or making the All-State Band, private music instruction is for great for every musician. CANDY BAR SALE
Candy boxes are available now for those who like to sell them or want to help offset their band fees. The first box sold benefits the collective band fundraising needs, $25 of every box after that goes to offset your band fees if you are signed up for the fundraising option.
To purchase a box of candy bars, please send a check for $60 payable to PCHS Band Boosters. Your student can bring it to school with them and see the band directors to purchase a box. Any boxes not sold under a fundraising plan will benefit the band’s collective fundraising needs.

VANDOREN VIDEO - FREE REEDS FOR A YEAR!
The Vandoren Company makes reeds, ligatures, and mouthpieces, and comes highly recommended for clarinet and saxophone students of every level. They have an application open through September 16th for students who may be interested in filming videos while receiving a 2-hour private lesson with a Vandoren Artist-Clinician. The video will be used for promotional materials by Vandoren, and the student will receive a free mouthpiece, ligature, free reeds for a year, and more.
Students must be available for a 2 hour photo/video shoot in Brookfield, IL between Oct 25-27th, as well as an orientation/meet and greet Zoom call 1 week prior. Participation will likely require a student to miss a morning or afternoon of school. DEADLINE to apply is 9/16/22.
Please note that our Fall Concert is Tuesday, October 25th, but you should be able to work around it for scheduling.

Q&F INSTRUMENT UPGRADE EVENT
The holidays are always a good time to give a musical gift. On Wednesday, November 30th (time tbd), we invite you to join us and come browse (or buy) professional model instruments through Quinlan & Fabish. While Q&F typically brings flutes, oboes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, horns, and trombones, I’m sure that they would bring other instruments if anyone is interested (please let me know). The purchase of tenor saxophones, baritone saxophones, bass clarinets, bassoons, euphoniums, and tubas are a bit more rare and something we should discuss, anyway. This event does not typically include percussion equipment, but again, they’re flexible and will bring something if we ask for it.
We encourage anyone considering this to keep their beginner model instrument for use with marching and pep band while reserving their professional model instrument for concert band use. The basic categories are beginner/student, intermediate, and professional. Students will notice an incredible difference in the quality of instrument between their beginner model and a professional model including the quality of materials, workmanship, fluidity of mechanisms, and tone quality. While there is a jump in price from the intermediate model to the professional, we believe that most students who are considering playing after high school will want/need a professional model instrument to move up in a collegiate ensemble and that the value provided by an intermediate model will leave them wanting to purchase a professional model in a few years anyway.
There is no obligation to buy, and no one to push you to do so. We hope that you’ll join us that night and see what is available!
