2022 Special Project Awards

North Bay - Celebration of CFUW North Bay's 80th Anniversary
A two month public display at the North Bay Museum of the club's contributions in the community.
 
Montreal Lakeshore - A Walk in Support of Afghan Women
About 100 women took part in a walk for Afghan Women, joined by representatives of the Canadian Council of Moslem Women, as well as Federal, Provincial and Municipal dignitaries.
 
Montreal Lakeshore - Support for West Island Women’s Shelter
The club partnered with a local Women’s Shelter, providing suitcases for their move, and sleepwear for mothers and children.
 
North York - International Women’s Day (IWD) Pink Tea event.
A community sponsor created 150 pink high tea boxes for pickup or home delivery. The program included guest speaker Wanda Bedard from the 60 Million Girls Foundation, a pink tea song, and a video of the Famous 5.
 
North York - Partnership with York University C4 Program
UWCNY has a unique mentoring partnership with York University Liberal Arts and Professional Studies students. Two groups of students considered systemic racism in the education system and another improving LTC for both residents and workers.
 
Orillia - Homes for Scholarships Virtual Tour
Included video home decorating and entertaining tips from 5 local businesses. They raised more funds than ever and had people participate from around the world.
 
Milton and District - Exploration of the Club’s Place in the Journey of Truth and Reconciliation
The club partnered with a local Indigenous woman and the event included an Indigenous guest speaker, books by Indigenous authors, a virtual Habitat for Humanity build on an Ontario reserve and much more. 
 
Ottawa - HOPE for Refugee Women Scholarships
A Fundraising Gala Dinner with a silent auction, a fundraising Trivia Game, and Sally Armstrong as Guest Speaker garnered 22 sponsors donating money or gifts and 335 guests attended the dinner and raised over $70,000.
 
Headwaters (Orangeville &District) - Accelerating Women’s Electoral Representation
A multi-pronged approach to elevate knowledge of and response to women’s issues in the political sphere, and normalizing women’s representation at all levels of government

Eileen Olexiuk Presentation

We had a wonderful presentation from Eileen Olexiuk on her experience as the first Canadian diplomat assigned solely to Afghanistan as a Political Counsellor.
 
In recognition of her presentation, we are asking our members to send a donation to the Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan to help the work in supporting women and girls in Afghanistan.
