Shinetime for Children
Join Ms. Erin and friends on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:15 for Shine Time! Each week we will gather in the Children’s Wing for a engaging look at key Bible stories starting at the very beginning in Genesis. Ms. Erin and volunteers will use Whirl Curriculum to guide the lessons each week.
Join us for our pilot Keep/Watch parish training on Sunday, September 11 from noon-2pm in the Parish Hall. This training is grounded in Episcopal tradition and evidence-based prevention methods and will equip and empower churches to practice community-based suicide prevention. This is the first training of its kind in the Diocese of Atlanta, so your participation and feedback would be appreciated! All (15 years and up) are welcome, but spaces are limited. Lunch will be provided. Registration here.
Challenges WE Face as part of the Worldwide Anglican Communion
9:30-10:15, Library & on Zoom
WE are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion – over 85 million of us in 165 countries. What challenges do WE face as we deal with our ministry in and around Columbus, yet part of that much larger family? We will consider this during our Sunday Adult Formation sessions this Fall. We start that process this Sunday, 9:30-10:15 a.m. in the church library and on Zoom, by looking for a couple sessions at the letter of 1 Peter, led by our Parish Theologian, Dr. Denny Clark. This New Testament book is sometimes exhilarating and inspiring, and at other times profoundly disturbing and revolting. The 650+ Anglican Bishops who gathered at the Lambeth Conference in August studied this book to prepare for their meeting. What were they thinking?!!? For those who are able, please read 1 Peter 1:1-2:12 prior to this Sunday’s session. If you can do a quick read of all of 1 Peter, even better!
Welcome Classes
September 11 & 18, 9:30 in the Parish Hall
St. Thomas Welcome Classes will continue on September 11 and 18. September 11 – How do we worship? A step-by-step walk through our Sunday liturgy with a focus on why we do what we do. Join Perrin Nicolson after the 10:30 service for a tour of the St.Thomas Windows.  September 18 – What do we value? A review of our Baptismal Covenant and how we commit ourselves to these promises through baptism, confirmation, and reception into the Episcopal Church. Join Ann Johnston after the 10:30 service for a tour of our building and grounds. If you missed the session on August 28 about Episcopal Church history, contact Rev. Grace to schedule a time to catch up!
Parking Note for Sunday
Good news - The parish hall is getting new waterproofing treatment on the outside wall that sits below ground level. Bad news - due to rain over the weekend, the work likely will not be finished by Sunday, so you may notice a large ditch and some blocked off parking spaces. Thanks for your patience while we get this important work done.
St. Thomas Window Tour
September 11, after the 10:30 service
The stained glass windows in the nave of St. Thomas depict major scenes from The Old and New Testaments. There are six main window panels, three on each side of the nave, with each panel depicting five different biblical scenes. Perrin Nicolson will offer a tour of the windows this Sunday after the 10:30 service for newcomers and anyone interested in learning more about the scenes.
Second Sunday Offering
On the 2nd Sunday of the month we receive a special offering for CVEM. They are helping many neighbors with rent, utilities, and other needs in this time. To give, go to cvemjubilee.org or bring cash or check to the collection box on Sunday.
Our Journey Groups begin this week, with the New Testament portions of Manna and Mercy, an insightful and engaging summary of the Bible.
