September Update

A big thank you to our soccer coaches (pictured above), as well as our ESL teachers, conversation partners, driving instructors, and prayer warriors! Refuge Bowling Green would not be able to serve our international friends and neighbors without your commitment and support.

Coming up…

Calling all pastors, ministers, and volunteers!

Did you and your church get right to work helping our community clean up from the December 2021 tornado?

Have you been feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude of the ongoing needs?

Even if your family, home, or church were not directly impacted by the tornado, you may have found that just helping others can be tiring and exhausting at times.

KYSteps is a local organization trained in Compassion Fatigue and Compassion Care.

Supper will be provided, but we ask that you RSVP here.

When? Monday, September 26 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Where? Rich Pond Baptist Church: 200 Brad Avenue, Bowling Green

Best thing about working here? Getting to build relationships with refugee and immigrant communities and seeing local churches do the same.

Funny thing that’s happened since working here? When I first started working for Refuge BG, I was a driving instructor. One of my students was from a country where they drive on the left side of the road instead of the right, and I’ll let you guess the rest.

What do you want people to know about your job? Currently I assist refugees and immigrants with immigration paperwork, and each application is long, complicated, and can be confusing. I only say this to give people an idea of how many hoops refugees and immigrants have to jump through (in addition to learning English) just to be able to do the things we do every day (ex. drive, work, pay for things).

Anything else you want to share? The name of our organization is commonly misspoken as Refugee BG. It’s not a big deal, but it’s just Refuge BG. We long for Bowling Green to be a refuge for refugees and immigrants as well as point them to our true refuge and strength, Jesus Christ!
