If your HUD funded project involves acquisition, rehabilitation, or demolition, the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970s, as amended (URA) likely applies.
The URA includes minimum federal requirements for property acquisition and relocation intended to establish uniform, fair, and equitable treatment of people impacted by federally funded programs and projects.
Let’s Talk About Relocation for Starters:
- Will your project involve the relocation of occupants, and will it be temporary or permanent?
- Did you know many HUD programs have occupant eligibility requirements? Will existing occupants be eligible to stay upon project completion or will they need to move?
- Have you planned and budgeted for all these possible relocation costs and their implementation?
- Do you have a relocation plan? Do you know if a written relocation plan is required?
- Do you have policies, procedures, and staffing in place to ensure successful relocation and URA compliance?
A well-planned project will not only help to ensure URA compliance, but also avoid unexpected costs, project delays, and possible litigation.
