Living Smart Discovery Trails

Come and enjoy Lake Mac’s new Discovery Trails on the shared pathway along the foreshore to Speers Point Park.
As you make your way along the 3km trail, keep your eyes peeled for the six Discovery Trail pathway stickers on the pavement. Scan the QR code and reveal questions about the natural environment, Aboriginal culture, local history and points of interest. Answer the questions correctly and the location of the next QR code on the trail will be revealed.

Complete the trail and receive a downloadable certificate.
  • Trail one goes from Booragul to Speers Point Park.
  • Trail two goes from Warners Bay to Speers Point Park.
The trails will be open for two weeks from 14-27 September.

This is a great way to use active transport and have some fun on your way to this year’s Living Smart Festival.

Where: Immaculate Heart of Mary Newcastle, 22 Tighes Terrace, Tighes Hill

Join with people of all faiths both in Australia and around the Pacific to show solidarity with those suffering because of humanity's addiction to fossil fuels. We will show the strength of grassroots support for an open letter to Prime Minister Albanese, signed by senior faith leaders in Australia and the Pacific. It will call on the Australian Government to:
  • Stop approving new coal and gas projects
  • End public subsidies for coal and gas projects
  • Fully respect First Nations peoples' rights to protect Country
  • Actively participate in creating a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty to phase out fossil fuels
  • Support a just transition
  • Re-start contributions to the United Nations Green Climate Fund.
Like many people who care about the climate, people of faith are excited by the potential of this new government to take Australian in a different direction. Yet they also need encouragement to go further.

National Schools Poster Competition

Keep your message brief, friendly, and to the point. If readers need to know more than you can fit here, add a link to an outside resource that covers the rest.

A reminder that National Schools Poster Competition (NSPC) entries are due online by 10 November via https://ssapostercomp.info/.

  • For those approaching school holidays, commencing projects or stimulating thoughts to build upon during or after the break may be valuable. In any event, the final school term offers adequate time to begin and complete projects. Spring provides a good opportunity for projects assessing the growth of potted plants having varied amounts of water/sunshine, or outdoor-focussed investigations surrounding the environment!
  • All entrants receive participation certificates … and a valuable and enjoyable learning experience – checkout the 5-min testimonial video from students and teachers at the website.
  • Registration and entry is FREE – teachers submit posters online (either photos or e-posters) on behalf of students.
The competition, now in its 9th year, is continuing to engage and help educate over 1,000 participants annually.
