September 9, 2022
Dear Parents,
We have good news, and bad news. The good news is that despite multiple delays, we are finally breaking ground on our turf field. The bad news is that I was just told that the construction might be starting on Monday!
We have quickly put together a contingency plan for the traffic and parking difficulties that we expect to happen once construction gets underway. Please look through this presentation and feel free to listen to our short video.
Half of the playground will be closed to students, but the playground equipment and slides will still be accessible for recess. Construction equipment will be going in and out of the parking lot and playground near Austin. Half of the teacher parking lot will also be closed.
I have been assured that the West Field ramp will be open on Monday. The West Field will be our temporary main entrance and exit. According to the project manager for the turf field - all construction needs to be completed by early November in order to maintain the warranty on the turf; so we expect this project to last about a month and a half.
The other important announcement is Picture Day is on Friday, September 16th. Please have your child dress appropriately.
Other Important Announcements:
ATTENTION Parents: If you are interested in having your child/children receive a free vision exam and you haven't completed the form, please fill the form out below. We are submitting all consent forms to the EyeCare team this week. Forms are due by Wednesday, September 14th. Once we receive a confirmation date for the eye exams, we will share it with you. Parental Form Forma de Espanol
After-school classes will start September 19th (We had to delay the start date by a week.) Most programs are now closed, but if you would like to sign your child up please fill out the 1st Quarter - Thorp Institute Form. Additional activities may be added as we confirm with our outside vendors and teacher sponsors. An application does not mean that your child is automatically accepted. Our after-school clubs have a minimum of 10 students and a maximum of 20. Students not accepted for this quarter will have first choice for the subsequent quarter.
COVID Testing
Please remember to sign your child up for free COVID testing each Thursday. You must enroll your child again for the 2022-2023 school year at https://www.color.com/cust/readycheckgo-cps
Volunteer Opportunities
I want to give a special thanks to those families who helped us paint the 1st grade classrooms over the summer. I would also like to thank the Espinoza family and (especially Christian) for their donation of painting supplies. We would also like to say thank you to the Painter’s District Council No. 14, Al Barraza, and All-Tech for their paint donation. Finally, I want to let everyone know that we will be finishing the painting for the rest of the classrooms on the 1st floor over the Thanksgiving Break. You may volunteer for our parent groups by clicking our Volunteer Interest Form. We will share this information with our FoT and PTA. Active participation in our parent groups is one of the best opportunities to become part of our school community.
Have a restful weekend (remember to plan for Monday),
