FREE COVID-19 RAPID TEST KITS AVAILABLE AT ASKENNONIA RECEPTION WITH UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS.

Test kits are supplied through a Chigamik Community Health Centre program. Please only take 1 test kit per family.  Each kit has 5 tests inside.  We have lots of tests!  Here's some current information to consider when testing for Omicron according to Ontario gov't.

“It might take up to four days (after symptoms begin) for your rapid test to be positive. Probably the most important message is if you start to get symptoms, don’t go anywhere. Self-isolate immediately. Don’t believe a negative rapid test right away.  Test-takers should avoid eating, drinking, smoking, vaping and chewing gum for at least 30 minutes before collecting samples. As well, people should blow their noses before swabbing their nostrils."

The guide goes on to recommend testers swab both inner cheeks and their lower gums — or, alternatively, the back of their throats and tonsils — before using the same swab to collect a sample from their nose as usual.

It's a good idea to have a test kit handy, especially if you find out that you may have been exposed to the virus.  Stay safe and take precautions - enough to make you comfortable. Don't attend if you are feeling sick.

Calling all new and existing blood donors!

  • Each year, over 100,000 new donors are needed to make up for those who can no longer donate. This helps ensure reliable access to blood and blood products for patients, where and when they need it.
  • We currently have the smallest donor base in a decade. We immediately need more donors to meet patient needs now and into the future.
  • Throughout the pandemic, the number of people across Canada who donate regularly has decreased by 31,000.
  • O-negative blood donors are especially needed because this blood type can be transfused to any patient. In times of emergency or for newborn patients, O-negative blood, the universal blood type, makes a lifesaving difference.
  • Donation appointment spots are available in the evenings, weekends and long weekend holidays at several donor centres and donation events in communities across Canada. If you are in good health, find a donor centre near you and book now at blood.ca.
  • Please share your story or reason for joining Canada’s Lifeline at blood.ca/reasons or on social media, so you may inspire others to help save lives. Don’t forget to tag us @CanadasLifeline and use the hashtags #BloodForLife #PlasmaForLife and #CanadasLifeline so we can like and share your posts.
