September Meeting

Creating Housing Opportunities with Home Match

Tuesday, September 20
7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
(via Zoom)

Join neighbors for our September Meeting, where we'll be joined by Gregory Bailey, Alameda County Director for Home Match.

Home Match is a free, non-profit home sharing program of Front Porch Communities and Services that connects Home Providers (homeowners and master tenants) looking to rent a room in their home (or an apartment/ADU on their property) with Home Seekers looking for affordable housing options.

Home Match is a high-touch service that vets and gets to know both program participants and facilitates matches based on shared lifestyle preferences and communication styles.

During his presentation, Gregory will tell us all about the many benefits of home sharing and how Home Match can make it both easy and successful!

Longfellow Community Yard Sale Returned with a Twist!

Back in June, the Longfellow Community Yard Sale--a popular neighborhood tradition in "the before times"--returned in full force. This year, we introduced the "free sale" option for neighbors with stuff to give away as well. More than 24 homes set up shop around the neighborhood!

We heard some great feedback from many of you who participated as both buyers and sellers, which we plan to use to make the next yard sale even better. If you have more ideas to share, send 'em our way.

Meanwhile, special thanks to neighbor Eric Davila for organizing this Longfellow favorite!

National Night Out

August 2nd marked the return of National Night Out (NNO), and Longfellow definitely came OUT. We had two events in our neighborhood--one on Apgar, hosted in partnership with the Black Cowboy Coalition and Regulars Only, and another to the north on 45th Street. It was great to see so many new and familiar faces.

If NNO was your first time learning about LCA, we're especially excited to welcome you to an upcoming meeting or event! See you soon.
Check out our full gallery of Longfellow's National Night Out 2022 pics, and take a look at pics from the 45th Street gathering (and more) shared by our friends at Commons Archive!

Support Local Students

September is 'Month of Giving' for Emerson Elementary PTA

The Emerson Elementary PTA is in the midst of its “Month of Giving” Campaign--a direct request to families and our neighborhood to help fund key programs at our local Emerson Elementary School that are not supported by the OUSD budget.

With ever-increasing pressure on district funds and less funding from the state, Emerson's PTA is setting out to help bridge the resource gap. If you'd like and are able to contribute, learn more and donate online.

Downtown Oakland Plan Area Proposed ZoningOn Tuesday, Sept. 13, the City of Oakland will be holding the third and final virtual community meeting about the Draft Zoning Amendments to implement the objectives of the Downtown Oakland Specific Plan (DOSP). The City is preparing the DSOP to ensure continued growth and revitalization to benefit both downtown residents and the larger community.
