Worship - Sunday, September 18, 2022

Today we continue our series of “An Attitude for Gratitude”. This Sunday we are looking at Gratitude for Creation. Dr. Caveney is away and the service will be led by Alix Dolson, Chair of the Camp Grafton Board. Camp Grafton is owned by Kamloops United Church and run by the Camp Grafton Society. Music will be led by Kamloops United Church music director Tomas Bijok.
Next Sunday, the KUC Choir will be back and we will also have special musicians. (More about that in next week’s eNews.) We will be celebrating Gratitude for Music.

Last Sunday, Spencer Lucas Salituro and Grace Frances Salituro, son and daughter of Anthony Salituro and Logan Giesbrecht were baptized.

ADVANCE NOTICE: The Kamloops United Church Choir will be starting rehearsals on Thursday September 22, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. They will be singing in church on Sunday September 25.

Last Sunday, Jayne Martin spoke to us in worship about her relationship with Kamloops United Church.

In Memoriam

Paul Newman
who passed away earlier in the month. Especially remember in your prayers his son Greg Newman, and his wife, Edith who is coping with Paul's passing. Paul was 88 years old and had lived an amazing life.

A note from our beautiful building

This past Tuesday the building was full and it was so great. I don't usually work in the evening but I was working with MJaye, our new custodian on his first day. In the building we had; a meeting in the Boardroom, a young peoples group in the Lounge, dancers in the Hall and a choir rehearsing in the Sanctuary. I stood in the lobby and soaked in all the energy and different voices. It seems like the tide may truly have turned and people are back gathering here again.

I really enjoyed that moment because there have been some unusual bumps this year. Our building is quite new and in the last 5 years, there have not been any significant repairs. This last season the building has needed some love; replacing the annunciator which (I now know) is a part of our fire alarm system, ($1,500), a new compressor for the main level AC ($3,000), and the TX valve that the compressor damaged when it broke ($2,000). We installed a new boiler coil for the main furnace for $5,000 which promptly broke but is under warranty. We are also experiencing too many dropped calls so we are looking into new phones as well.

The projects that we planned for are going well (if a bit slowly). We are waiting on the famous 'supply chain" to send us the parts to update the lower level AC approved by the congregation. Which will be a great relief in next year's heat and possibly smoke. The Lift is also in the mail (so to speak) and the contractor who will be preparing the space is getting ready to make some dusty noise. Once he gives me the word I will tarp the area to keep the dust in check! I am grateful that the Lift project is in motion. I hate to say a date it will be complete BUT the contractors are in communication and doing their best.

Thank you to all who (like me) love our building! She is upright, beautiful, and doing her best for us all.

Sasha will be teaching an ONLINE Ukrainian History Series, starting Sep 24th, every Saturday at 12:00 PM. For those who are looking to learn about Ukraine, please register for the series (button below).

TwentySomething Barbeque, Sep 30th

Are you in your twenties? Do you know someone who is in their twenties? There will be a meeting of twentysomethings towards the end of the month, September 30th at 6:00 pm for a barbeque at the home of Michael and Joe. Following the barbeque meal, we will have a social time and will be considering social justice projects here in Kamloops that we might undertake, especially how we might help new Ukrainian families to Kamloops in partnership with Immigrant Services Kamloops and Thompson Rivers University. Orange Shirt Day

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2022 also Known as Orange Shirt Day

September 30, 2022, marks the 2nd annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

On this day we honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. Widespread public commemoration and acknowledgment of the tragic and painful history continued impact, and intergenerational trauma of Canada's residential school legacy is a vital component of the reconciliation process. The University of Waterloo and the Office of Indigenous Relations continue to amplify that truth as we build towards reconciliation. We will also highlight the beauty and resilience of indigeneity and the strengthening of bonds with allies as we navigate this complex and meaningful day.

KUC will acknowledge this important day at our September 25th Service. Please remember to wear your orange shirts.
