Principal's Message

Hello McGaugh Families,

This week we celebrated our first college day of the school year. Many Sea Lions were spotted on campus showing their spirit by dressing in their favorite college gear.

College day is about facilitating opportunities for students to have meaningful conversations, clarifying what it means to go to college, and breaking down barriers to inspire a pursuit of higher education. Each month, following a short video clip, teachers lead a discussion about college education and careers.

This month focused on, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Students shared the career they want to pursue and how college, trade school or the military can support their path.

The PTA REFLECTIONS Art Contest Is Happening Now!

Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 nationwide create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

The 2022-2023 Reflections theme is Show Your Voice!
Students are challenged to express themselves with submissions in six categories: Literature, Visual Arts, Film Production, Dance Choreography, Music Composition and Photography.

Awards are given by grade level: TK-2nd grade (primary) and separate awards for 3rd-5th grade (intermediate).

We encourage Sea Lions to show their creativity! Fill out the submission form here, print it out and turn it in with your work of art to the McGaugh office by September 30, 2022. Digital submissions can be sent to SeaLionReflections@gmail.com. There are also forms available in the office.

Attention 5th Grade Parents and Students

Our 5th grade contest is here and due soon! We invite all 5th grade students to enter your t-shirt design to be a contender for the winning 5th Grade T-Shirt and Sweatshirts that will be available to purchase later this year. Be creative and have fun!

Please turn in your design by September 19 to your 5th grade teacher or the front office! If you have any questions, please email Sarahdreilly@hotmail.com

McGaugh Silent Auction

We are gearing up to our annual McGaugh Silent Auction and we want to make this the best one yet! We need your help!

Do you have unopened, new toys or gift cards you won't use? Do you know a business owner that has an item or experience to donate? Do you have connections to tickets, events, weekend stays, activities, golf rounds, or lessons? PTA could really use the support to add some awesome items to our silent auction. We are especially in need or larger ticket items.

You can also create a basket or donate items in your family name. Donations can be left in the front office, attention PTA, or contact
Jennifer Katz to arrange pick up.

All proceeds go directly to support McGaugh! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and proceeds go to support programs such as International Culture Club, school fields trips, school assemblies and guest speakers, classroom enhancements, our recent purchase to create a strings music program (1st in the District), upcoming gaga pit, community events like the carnival, and so much more! Your support means so much and every donation makes a difference.

THANK YOU for all your support! Please reach out with any questions.

Project SEEK

How many drops of water fit on a penny? I bet your first grader knows. Ask them. You can also ask you student about mixing colors, who the artist focus for the year is. These are all things students have exploring already in our STEM and art labs. Mrs. Samari and Miss Anya bring the magic from day one.

And it’s because of generous donations and support from families like you to contribute to McGaugh’s non-profit, Project SEEK!  Project SEEK fully funds the art and STEM lab, as well as the media center.

One of the easiest ways to support Project SEEK is by becoming a Sea Lion Sponsor and donating to our Fall Donation Drive https://one.bidpal.net/sealionsponsor.  Grandparents and family members are always welcome to donate and get involved, as well.

We hope you can join us in our efforts to keep these amazing programs running. We are so grateful for your continued support of art and technology at McGaugh!

Sincerely,
Claudia Vecchio Wille

Project SEEK President 2022-2023
