Healthy fats or plant-based oils are as important as fruit and vegetables. We do not only need them as fats for frying or roasting. They are necessary for all kinds of essential body processes.  It is not a question of avoiding fats, but of using good fats. Choose unrefined or extra virgin plant-based oils and traditional fats such as coconut oil, red palm oil, COP oil and olive oil.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WITH PLANT OILS 
  1. The quality of the oil is more important than the variety! Choose unrefined or extra virgin oils. Refined oils are deodorised and bleached. Due to the refining they have become almost odourless and tasteless and have lost many nutrients.

  2. Vary with oils as you do with fruit and vegetables. There is a great diversity in vegetable oils. They contain different amounts of monounsaturated (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Always using the same oil is too one-sided.

  3. Some oils can be heated, others are best used cold. Oils with a lot of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are only used for cold preparations. They become harmful when heated. Oils for heating should mainly contain MUFAs and as few PUFAs as possible.
