Coming Soon at UCET

Congratulations, Elena Mrozinske!

This past Spring, Elena Mrozinske became the first faculty member at Indiana University South Bend to achieve official Quality Matters certification for a course. Her SWK-S141: Introduction to Social Work hybrid course was reviewed by a team of three faculty members with current experience in online teaching, including a subject matter expert. The review team used the Quality Matters Rubric in the certification process, which is based on best practices that promote student learning and is supported by a thorough review of the research literature. The peer review team determined that Elena’s course met Quality Matters standards. Quality Matters certification is a rigorous, nationally recognized process and represents Elena’s strong commitment to excellence and quality in online education. Congratulations, Elena!

The Quality Matters program at IUSB offers funded opportunities for faculty, including professional development to apply best practices in online course design, continuous improvement of course design through peer review, and peer reviewer training and certification. To learn more about Quality Matters, please contact Anna Michelle Martinez-Montavon at ama9@iu.edu or 574-520-4529.

https://iu.zoom.us/j/92194551377

Are you interested in becoming a member of FACET? The deadline isn’t until May of 2023, but advanced planning is helpful. Anna Savvopoulou, campus coordinator for FACET nominations and applications, will present an overview of the FACET nomination and application process and answer your questions. FACET is open to full-time faculty members who have completed 3 years of full-time teaching in the Indiana University system by June 1st of the year in which they are nominated. All full-time tenure line, lecturer line, and clinical line faculty, and librarians with significant teaching responsibilities are eligible for nomination.

Write More, Worry Less Faculty Writing Group

Are you looking for encouragement and support to reach your research goals?  Our Write More, Worry Less group emphasizes carving out blocks of time for writing, sharing early drafts, and creating specific deadlines for key parts of large projects. Faculty who have participated in these groups have seen an increase in their writing productivity.

In past years we’ve met monthly for in-person sharing and support as well as run a weekly text-based check-in.  We are a cross-disciplinary group who welcome all faculty.  E-mail Alisha Springle (aspringl@iu.edu) for more information or join us at our 2022-23 organizational meeting on Tuesday, September 20.  We’ll be meeting over a lunch (11:30 -1:00 pm) at the Bucket, 1212 S Ironwood Dr, South Bend, IN 46615.  We hope to see you as we celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of last school year and look forward to those to come!

Technology Showcase

Friday, September 23, 9-Noon, in Fireside A&B

We're back on campus after an adventurous two years. We've all come a long way but where are we going? What do students expect after such a fluid time? How can we most effectively utilize current teaching tools to meet the needs of our students in this new environment?  Join us for a morning of technology exploration and discovery. Hear from faculty about how they've used technology received through the UCET Teaching with Technology grant. What have their successes been? What challenges have they had to overcome? Maybe they've used something that might work for you. Demonstrations, inspirations, discussions, questions and real answers. Light refreshments served. Come for the entire morning or for as long as you'd like. Faculty presenters include Ryan Olivier, Jenny Deranek, Jennifer Muniz, Henry Scott, Barbara Spinda, Jay VanderVeen.
