Hotel Garber groundbreaking ceremony set for Oct. 7th
Members of the Red Cloud Hotel, LLC Board of Managers are excited to announce that the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Potter Block Development Project (aka Hotel Garber) will take place at 5:30pm at the hotel site (346 N. Webster St) with a reception to follow at On the Brix. Food will be provided but you must contact Ashley Olson at aolson@willacather.org if you want to be added to the list.

Time is running out! Red Cloud Community Fund needs your help to meet September fundraising goal
As of September 28th, the Red Cloud Community Fund (RCCF) has raised $19,200 to help ensure that Heritage Tourism Development can continue, that a Recreation Trail in and around Red Cloud can get built, and that its Youth committee can flourish and get more involved in the community. RCCF hopes to raise $25,000, so your support is needed ASAP! Limited time opportunities to get free Chamber bucks or a Heritage Tourism baseball cap are still available as of Sept. 28th.

History Nebraska Awards Funding to 2 new Historical Markers in Red Cloud area
Heritage Tourism Development and local citizens were able to obtain funding for 2 new historical markers, thanks to History Nebraska's Marker Equity program. Thanks to these efforts, Red Cloud will soon have a marker dedicated to telling the stories of Kay Cover and Pol-y-gron-da-ha.
Cover was a trailblazing athlete who helped establish a dominant girls softball program in Red Cloud. Her story was recently chronicled by Nebraska Public Media. Signage for Cover will be located at Illian Field near the ballfields. Pol-y-gron-da-ha is the name of the Otoe woman buried at the top of "Indian Princess Hill" in 1874. Signage for this site will be located near the base of the hill, near the intersection of River Road and Hwy 281 by the Republican River Bridge. The sign will also tell a bit of Pawnee and Republican River history. The markers will be similar to the one in the picture of the Willa Cather Childhood Home below.
Heritage Tourism also submitted an application to tell the story of actress Lea Penman and hopes to get it approved in 2023.

Nebraska Department of Transportation to host open house about downtown road improvement project on Sept. 29th
Learn more about upcoming road improvement projects along US Hwy 281 and US Hwy 136 in downtown Red Cloud. These improvements include removing the existing brick downtown, replacing it with an alternate design which may or may not include new brick, some new utility infrastructure, curbs, and gutters within the area highlighted in the graphic below. This would be a great time to let NDOT know what you want to see happen with this project and let them know what you think is the best fit for the future of the community. As of this writing, the road project looks to be on the docket for 2025.

Downtown Revitalization Plan Meeting on October 5th.
A public presentation for initial concepts from Confluence Landscape Architecture concerning the potential Downtown Revitalization CDBG application by the City of Red Cloud will happen at the Community Center on Wednesday, Oct. 5th. Be sure to stop by and check out these exciting ideas and share your praise, concerns, and vision with the rest of the community. The architects will use the feedback from this meeting to help refine their concepts with the hopes that a plan can be created and submitted for DTR funding with the State of Nebraska in 2023.

Integrity Rehab sets up shop next to Kenny's Hardware & Home Center
When Matt and Casey Kenny moved back home to Red Cloud in 2021, the community was blessed to find a young couple with school age children who wanted to take over a critical business. Since transforming Kenny's Lumber into Kenny's Hardware & Home Center, Matt & Casey have added another asset to the Red Cloud Community: Integrity Rehab, LLC. Matt and Casey met while in college at UNK and were married in 2009. They have three children, Camden, Karlie and Kyler. They both worked for Family Physical Therapy in Kearney for 11 years where Matt was a physical therapist and director of one the rehab clinics and Casey worked as a speech-language pathologist seeing out-patient pediatrics. Matt and Casey relocated to Superior in 2020 where Matt worked at Superior Physical Therapy and Casey worked for Superior Public Schools.
