Reports from Quadrathlon and Parkrun
Its been an incredibly sad few days for the country, but our young athletes showed real spirit and commitment as they trained and particpated in events around the region.

On Friday evening our juniors once again joined forces with our friends from Wallsend to take part in the Friday Night Quadrathlon. 45 young athletes observed a minutes silence in memory of Queen Elizabeth, before embarking on their 4 events in what turned out to be at times hugely challenging conditions. Jack Webster produced a fantastic series of performances and came out top scorer in his age group, including taking 1st place in the 400m. Harry Ross starred in the 75m, setting a big personal best of 12.3s, whilst Jack Irving also set a big new PB on the 75m sprint. Liliana produced a fantastic 600m, and was fastest off all in her age group, whilst Mairi-Louise produced strong results all including an impressive sprint.

Oliver Lamb was brilliant all-round, as he exceeded the 300 point mark, as did Alexander Robson-Lamb who was fastest boy in the 600m. India Gorvett had a solid day, but a superb 75m PB was a highlight, with Martha Lorimer also running a swift sprint amidst a great series of events. Despite the very tricky conditions, Safia made a big points improvement compared to the July event, with her 600m being fantastically paced. Ben Compton made his first appearance in Blyth vest, and was magnificent throughout with big scores across all events. Aman Sanghera was another to improve her overall points total compared to last time, with a near 2 second improvement in the 100m sprint! Caitlin Creaby put in another fine series, and was the top scoring girl in all age groups with 421pts. She set an unofficial club record In the 600m of 1:55.9. Finally Isla endured a challenging long jump, but produced a fine 800m run in horrendous rain, smashing her PB with 2:46.7.

RESULTS

Sadly, the Junior Great North Run on Saturday was cancelled - however there were some great performances at the local parkruns. On Saturday, Niamh was 2nd lady home at Druridge Bay, whilst on Sunday Liliana was 17th at Whitley Bay, with a PB for Jack Webster as he took 19th place.

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
