LIFRC Community Update
September 20, 2022
|
|
|
In recent years, we’ve been sending out one community communique each month.
As lovely as they are to compile, (and share!) we realize that, not only is it difficult to accurately showcase our amazing leaders and their respective projects, but the emails have simply become too long.
That’s why we are trying something new!
From here on out, you can expect to see us sliding into your inbox every Tuesday.
Only instead of lengthy round ups of the programs that you make happen, we’ll be sending out shorter, weekly spotlights along with important updates and reminders for the week.
We hope this change will be helpful and look forward to your feedback.

This week we are thrilled to announce that LIFRC and the Lopez Island School District, along with community partners, have been awarded a competitive grant to establish a 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC).
In the case that you aren’t familiar with the 21st Century Community Learning model, its essence lies in creating hope-filled, inclusive spaces for academic enrichment opportunities to take place outside of regular school hours. Things like literacy, art, environmental education, and so much more!
Research shows that student engagement in after school enrichment programs gives students a deeper sense of belonging, stimulates better self-perception, significantly lowers behavioral problems and encourages higher test scores (Durlak, Weissberg, and Pachan, 2010).
Aiming to launch an after school program mid-November, we’ve already begun to put together a team of creative professionals, however, we are still in search of instructors!
If you are passionate about education and would love to facilitate, and lead, enriching learning activities for youth in K-5th grade or 6-8th grade, please consider applying by sending your resume and cover letter to stephanie@lifrc.org
