Dear reader,
Welcome to this week’s edition of our newsletter.

Apple may have dropped the “mini” from its latest iPhone line-up, but there is a case to reposition the model as a new SE. Explaining the rationale, Varun Mishra says the success of previous SE devices shows consumers are willing to accept some trade-offs between smaller displays and the overall Apple experience.
From touting their megapixel counts to professional-grade experiences, smartphone OEMs have come a long way when it comes to the camera. Emphasizing the role of SoCs in camera innovations, Neil Shah says the Snapdragon 8 and 8+ Gen 1 platforms have set a very high benchmark for “industry first” innovations.
Though China contributed to 67% of the global handset production in 2021, things look shaky going forward. With diminishing demand for handsets in the country and Chinese OEMs seeking to diversify their production sites, the proportion of Chinese production is also expected to decline in the future, explains Minsoo Kang.
