Policy Destination Area Applications Due in Less Than A Week!
The Virginia Tech Policy Destination Area (PDA) is soliciting applications from faculty who wish to pursue research projects with policy relevance. This call supports two initiatives: the +Policy Fellows program, now in its 5th year; and a new opportunity, the Policy Scholars program, designed to enable researchers without policy expertise to obtain tailored guidance by collaborating with a faculty expert. NIH Calls for Research on Health-Related Behavioral Interventions
This Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) encourages research that integrates basic behavioral and social sciences that tests innovative interventions focused on behaviors associated with improved health or disease mitigation. The Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) is issuing this Notice to highlight interest in the systematic development of original health-related behavioral interventions. Applicants must select the Institute or Center and associated funding opportunity when applying. Call for Research on Climate Change and Human Health
Burroughs Wellcome Fund invites applications for the Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grant Program, which aims to stimulate the growth of new connections between scholars working in largely disconnected fields who could together change the course of climate change’s impact on human health. Of special interest are new approaches or interactions toward reducing the impact of health-centered activities. Public outreach, climate communication, and education efforts focused on the intersection of climate and health are also encouraged. Click here for details.

ACS Calls for Proposals on Health Policy and Cancer Prevention
The American Cancer Society is keenly interested in supporting rapid learning research to study the effects of health policy changes on patients, providers, and health systems; unintended consequences; differential experiences for patients; best practice models for quality care; and economic impact. Grant awards of two to three years have maximum direct costs of $200,000 per year, and awards of four years, $165,000 per year. Click here for details.

Search for Advancing Climate Mitigation Policy Solutions
The Wellcome Trust Award will fund collaborations between researchers and policy actors who have a clear opportunity to influence climate mitigation policies with substantial health effects. Successful applicants will generate evidence that will support policymakers in G7 countries to advance transformative health-centered changes in the food systems, transport, energy or housing sectors. Funding is up to £2M (over 3 years). Click here for details.

Call for Applications on Multiple Social Science Research Topics
Russell Sage Foundation encourages letters of inquiry (LOI) under all of its core programs and special initiatives: Behavioral Science and Decision Making in Context; Future of Work; Immigration and Immigrant Integration; Race, Ethnicity and Immigration; Social, Political, and Economic Inequality. LOIs must include specific information about the proposed data and research design. Click here for details.

Calls for Research that Align with the 2022 National Defense Strategy
The Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) requests proposals for the Minerva Research Initiative, a university-led defense social science program seeking fundamental understanding of the social and cultural forces shaping U.S. strategic interests globally. Minerva aims to improve DoD's basic understanding of the social, cultural, behavioral, and political forces that shape regions of the world of strategic importance to the U.S. This submission process includes two phases:  a White Paper submission and a full proposal.  Click here for details and here for the full RFA.

Ben Katz, assistant professor of human development in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, Tae-Ho Lee, assistant professor of psychology in the College of Science, and Il Hwan Kim from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center were awarded $3,791,783 from the National Institute on Aging for their study "Losing specificity: The role of the locus coeruleus in age-related distractability."

The Fralin Biomedical Reserach Institute begins its lecture series September 22, 2022, at 5:30-6:30pm. "Socially-Directed Science and Technology: Design at the Intersection of History, Sustainability, and Equity with Applications to Biotechnology and Biomaterials" will be the topic presented by Christine Ortiz, the Morris Cohen Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.   • Webinar on New Concept Outlines Sept. 27 -- The National Science Foundation (NSF) will offer a webinar covering Concept Outlines at NSF, on Tuesday, September 27 from 2:00-3:00pm. The Concept Outline is a new submission type; its primary purpose is to ensure that the concept being proposed is appropriate for the proposal type or funding opportunity. Attendees are encouraged to submit questions ahead of time so speakers can tailor their remarks to the most pressing questions. Click here for details.
