All of this makes for very sad reading. But did you also know that nearly one-third of trees — more than 17,500 species — are threatened with extinction? This is more than twice the number of threatened mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles combined. And, paradoxically, mass plantings of trees often adds to the problem as they tend to use a single species. Researchers are also estimating that in current conditions, approximately 60 percent less seeds are being spread out far enough to adapt to climate change. And if seed-carrying birds and bees go extinct, that number will drop by around another 15 percent.

One small sliver of good news is that the Global Tree Assessment revealed that nearly two-thirds of threatened trees are found in areas that are already protected, and protecting vulnerable trees in their natural habitats is the best approach in protecting and propagating species under threat. It's also kind of mind-blowing to hear that we actually don't know how many distinct species we have on Earth! That means there's still heaps of species we haven't discovered yet. Unfortunately, however, many may become threatened or even extinct before they are discovered.

In good news on the biodiversity front, an Australian start-up is using tech to bring re-forestation to a whole new level. Using a fleet of highly advanced 'octocopters', AirSeed Technology is fighting deforestation by combining artificial intelligence with specially designed seed pods which can be fired into the ground from high in the sky. Not only are the drones 25 times faster, and 80 per cent cheaper in comparison to traditional methodologies, but each drone hopper is loaded with specially selected seed pods compatible with the habitat below and the pods are manufactured using waste biomass, providing a carbon rich coating that protects the seeds from birds, insects and rodents and helping to increase reforestation success.

Getting to the Root of Pet Wellness
It’s Pet Wellness month next month, so now is the time to get planning promotions, activities and content to share with your customers through October that will inspire them to put their pet’s wellness at the top of their agenda, though we’re sure most of them are already!
There are many steps pet owners can take toward keeping their pets healthy. Diet, exercise and parasite control are just three and in our article on Pet Wellness in the HomeoPet Natural Pet Care Center, we explore these together with five more.
Keeping an animal's teeth healthy is another key aspect of pet wellness and not many pet owners know that taking good care of their pet’s teeth can add 2-4 years to their lives. While regular pet tooth care may sound like an arduous task, it’s actually not as difficult as you might think with some products and it makes good business sense to encourage your customers to make tooth care a priority.
With HomeoPet pet dental care has never been easier, as our Doggy Dental and Feline Purr Dental offer a really easy way to help keep our pet's teeth in excellent shape. These natural, homeopathic medicines aid in the removal of plaque and tartar, while also supporting healthy teeth, gums and breath. And no brushing required!

Halloween Ahead
It may still be early September and a bit early to start planning for your Halloween celebrations, but in our view it's never too early to plan for pet safety. There are many circumstances that may cause our animals extra stress and anxiety, with Halloween being a major one for many. And while fireworks displays, bonfires and scary costumes are great fun for us, they're not so fun for our pets.
As animal health and welfare is HomeoPet's number one priority, we have formulated a range of natural medicines to help animals cope with a wide variety of stressful situations. From Fireworks to travel and pretty much everything in between, now is the time to plan ahead and make sure you're well stocked with the anxiety solutions that will best help your customers' pets, when they need it most.

HomeoPet – Natural Pet Care For 27 Years
Tom Farrington MRCVS., MVB., VetMFHom - recognized many years ago the increasing demand for alternative natural treatments for common conditions that, while not life-threatening, cause suffering in animals. Previous ways of treating such conditions were with expensive and often harmful drugs that had significant unwanted side effects. In 1990 Tom enrolled his brother Daniel to see if there might be a market for a safe, naturally based therapy for animals. After several years of research, in 1994 Tom's vast knowledge of animal health, veterinary medicine, homeopathy and natural pet care became available outside his clinic, when his brother Daniel founded HomeoPet and launched a range of natural medicines for animals. We have been helping pet owners and animal lovers around the world find a more natural route to pet health ever since.
