Fact 1: We overestimate how happy we will be if things go ‘our way’.
Fact 2: We underestimate how difficult new experiences can be.
Fact 3: Yearning for a missed opportunity is good for us.
Fact 4: There are 3 dysfunctional beliefs that we have:
• “I must do well and get approval from others.”
• “Other’s must do the right thing, or they are not worthy.”
• “Life must be easy.”
Why is it worth pointing out the glaring, or not so glaring, ‘facts'? Well, having to live to the expectation of others, including the need to be constantly happy, perpetuates a cycle of mental anguish. We don’t acknowledge that we deserve to have a ‘bad’ day. We don’t fully accept, and only realise with our best friend named hindsight, that all things pass and that working through them will get us to the other side. What we do know, based on what all teachings tell us, is that to be happy and ignite a plethora of possibilities, we need to be in a constant state of happiness. Now, this is something that needs to be unpacked as our positive energies do bring abundance and joy. There is no doubt about this. There is, however, a balance that we need to achieve.
