Joy and Your Important Title
Dear Reader,
I had a fun experience yesterday at the lake. I bumped into a little friend of our family and his friend as they were on their way to the beach. This little boy, about eight years old or thereabouts, regularly walks our dog, Choccie, and he's become sort of part of the family because of that.
I said hi to him and his friend and as I was going around the corner, I heard the friend say to him, "So who is this guy?"
The little boy replied, “Well, he is the man who owns Choccie.”
It put a big smile on my face because I thought, isn't that a great title? He loves Choccie and I'm the man who owns Choccie. That was his title for me. It was fabulous.
It made me think, what titles do we have? Why do we sometimes get so serious about our titles? Why do we have all sorts of ideas about our hierarchy and how important my title is and to get to that title?
Perhaps, it's a little bit better to just have a bit of fun with our titles. Maybe there's some joy at the end of our titles.
Do you know that one of the other titles that I've earned is that I'm a certified 'laughter leader'? Yeah, there's a thing like that, you can Google it. This means that I had one full weekend of training and I can put you through laughter yoga exercises, till you have these belly laughs coming out of you. I'm still using that in some of my workshops. So there you go, another ‘serious’ title that I have: certified laughter leader. Not certifiable laughter leader, that's something else.
So let's think about the titles we have and the titles we give people. And maybe sometimes we put them on pedestals or we want to be on these pedestals.
Is there joy there, or is there more joy in saying, I'm here, I'm on my journey, I'm going somewhere else, and let's help each other progress through life and achieve joy together.
