Inside Business Management’s COVID-19 Response

The Houston Health Department's Business Management team plays a vital role in the COVID-19 response. Our Business Management team works to procure and manage our funding resources thru the Equity grant. As part of the Equity Team, they are among the unsung heroes whose efforts continue the groundbreaking work set into motion during and after the pandemic. Learn more.

Health Education in Action

Recently the health education team partnered with Janice Weaver & One Body Networking at their 9th   Annual Blood Drive. They were able to provide on-site health education on both COVID-19 and Monkeypox. The Health Department’s Mobile Vaccination Unit provided vaccinations to over 75 people. Vax Hou and other vendors were also in attendance.

Prevention Institute Training Series

Prevention Institute (PI) facilitated the second Embedding Equity training session for Houston Health Department's Leadership on September 8th. As part of this training, PI introduced the concept of Continuous Equity Improvement Cycles, a framework for change management that incorporates a diverse range of perspectives, including community voice, geographic context, and front-line worker dialogues, in order to create equitable and fair project outcomes. Prevention Institute will continue to engage in deeper dives with leadership at the Houston Health Department on operationalizing equity in management and shared accountability as well as advancing the evidence base with equity metrics.  In the coming months, staff teams will also begin to participate in Embedding Equity training and dialogues.

What Health Equity Means to Me:

Health equity means that people have access to resources based on their needs, not their socioeconomic background or social status. It means prioritizing one’s health over their affordability or access to affordable healthcare. Health equity is what makes the work we do so essential and worthwhile!
