Registration for Hybrid 2022 Teachers Class and Theme Design

Hello! <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>

2022 Teachers Class (October 17 - 20, With optional stitching day on Oct 21) will be a hybrid class of both online and In-person

Last year, we had about 50 teachers and advanced stitchers participated in the class online. We enjoyed focusing on the history, symbolism, color schemes, color dye, and gold leaf, as well as how Japanese embroidery has evolved to its current form. It is as much important to know about the background of Japanese embroidery as to study the techniques.
We are also incorporating the content of Kurenai-Kai’s two-year teacher’s program with the intention of matching the global standards.
For this time, along with the knowledge that we accumulated, we would like to offer an opportunity to discuss the topics of how we can maximize the potential of students and improve the operation both online and in-person. We are hoping to exchange ideas and tips from experienced teachers as well. Also, we are introducing the new phase III “Winning wheel“ and this curriculum will cover the required techniques for this level. This Tagasode design with a decorated hammer water wheel will have an option of two color-dye inside of kimono and gold leaf. We are also going to utilize the traditional colors and explain Master Iwao Saito’s color scheming concept and discuss how we can approach his standard.

*If you participate in the 4-day class live, you will be waivered from completing the assignments - Watch the recorded video, upload photos, take the quiz, etc. The on-demand assignment deadline will be on Dec 31.

Option 1: Winning Wheel
This year's Teachers Class will focus on the new Phase III "Winning Wheel" based on the traditional Japanese design and color scheme.
The hammered wheel as a family crest is a pattern of a wooden hammer attached to a wheel. It means "to strike," or "to win" and is often used in the crests of samurai families. It is said to have become a family crest because of its auspiciousness, such as to bring fortune just like swinging a magic mallet. It is said to appear in a crest book of the Edo period. Also, it is a symbol of good fortune since it is a possession of Daikokuten.
This Auspicious motif is widely used for kimono designs in the Edo period.

Option 2: Your own projects (any JEC designs including fractal projects)
You may start new pieces or bring your pieces in progress. If you will be able to share and upload/send your design prior to the class, we can explain the symbolism and the history behind it.

During the class, we will introduce the next Advanced Class design, which will be part of the Teacher’s Class program in order to explain the history, color scheme, and color dye as well as deepen the understanding and skill provided by Teachers Class.
The images shown for this registration will be used during the Teachers’ Class. We look forward to explaining their history and techniques.

If you wish to apply gold leaf, please submit the fabric order by Sept 8, 2022. Otherwise, please submit it by Sept 12 so we can ship it to you on time. If you are picking it up at the JEC, you can submit it 20 days before the class.

The Zoom meeting link will be provided for those registered for this class.

Monthly Advanced Support Session

For the class on Sept 9, 2022, EST, along with the morning talk about the report of the 2022 EGA seminar, we will continue to share Master Iwao Saito's quotations which were not covered in the past classes. We strongly believe his words really enrich our experience and provide us the fuel to be better stitchers. We will also show several of his designs which will be in the catalog.

-All Phase X and above stitchers are welcome to join.
This monthly class aims to encourage advanced stitchers to bring their ongoing projects and deepen their skills with JEC/Kurenai-kai certified professionals. Also, help teachers to pass on necessary information and skills to establish high-standard teaching for their students. Also, we are planning to issue the certification for completing Phase 20 and above for the encouragement to teach upper phases.
Morning talk will be provided during this program. You can bring any ongoing projects including the Maple leaves with a small bird taught by Kurenai-kai and Mr. Yamashita, and we are here to provide the necessary aid or you can listen to other stitchers' support.

Crowdfunding for Virtual 2022 Nuido World Exhibition

If you are a Nuido member and a stitcher, please upload your embroidered design for a 2022 World Exhibition Virtual Exhibition from this link. You can submit more than one design and we will select the relevant photo.

This October, we are planning to hold an exhibition to share Nuido, the way of embroidery, which has the potential to move people's hearts in Ginza, Tokyo. However, it is also true that most people will not be able to attend due to the current situation happening in the world. This is why we started the Zoom classes and it made it possible to overcome such trials and has been quite successful to produce gorgeous embroidery pieces! This crowdfunding is to make people possible to view the Nuido World Exhibition virtually from the internet. Kurenai-kai and The Japanese Embroidery Center inc would like to ask you to participate in this crowdfunding to make this happen!

Click here for an example of virtual exhibition

By participating in this crowdfunding, you will receive rewards such as The Nuido World Collection Vol. III (If participated in Pine plan and above)

And postcard of not-for-sale Hokusai Phoenix (If participated in Bamboo plan and above)

Please keep in mind that the rewards will be shipped to you after the exhibition is ended (Beginning of November 2022) and make sure to keep this crowdfunding separate from other orders unless you don’t mind.

We will also engrave your name on the list of contributors as we did for the Online Learning Crowdfunding.

We were born and raised in the Kurenai-kai workshop established by our grandparents. From the time we were born, we were surrounded by many apprentices in addition to our families, and our grandfather taught us how to embroider along with our siblings for as long as we can remember.

We were attracted by the rigor of embroidery, which cannot be done overnight, and the charm that emerges from it, and I am now struggling to spread Japanese embroidery to as many people as possible.

What we find most attractive about Japanese embroidery is that it moves people's hearts.

We have seen moments when Japanese embroidery opens up various possibilities for people and places. At Japanese embroidery productions and exhibitions, we see a wide variety of smiles and emotions, from elementary school students to people reaching 100 years of age, transcending gender and race.

On October 12 - 16, 2022, we will hold the "Embroidery Way World Exhibition" in Ginza and exhibit the "Fractal Project," which will be created together with many people from all over the world, in the hope of communicating the appeal of this traditional Japanese culture and the potential of Japanese embroidery to as many people as possible.

We believe that the essence of Japanese embroidery lies in "the heart that thinks of others. At Kurenai-kai, we have always valued this, and have focused on creating embroideries that support disaster and other affected areas, as well as exchanges with people from other countries.

Through Japanese embroidery, which has the power to cheer, heal, encourage, and support people, we hope to expand our circle of exchange with people from all walks of life. We hope that you will join us in supporting the "Embroidery World Exhibition.
