Attendance Policy Changes

The Excessive Absence Policy has been updated and reads as follows:

"Excessive absences of any kind, whether “excused” or “unexcused,” will lead to consequences including a necessity to repeat an entire semester or year of class work. When excessive absences adversely affect a Cadet’s performance, the Academic Dean and the Commandant will confer with the parents to discuss appropriate action. If, however, a Cadet is absent from a class for ten (10) or more days in a Semester (regardless of whether those absences are excused or unexcused) the Cadet will receive no credit for that course and a failing grade will be recorded on the Cadet's transcript. Exceptions to this may apply in extreme circumstances but must be approved by the President, Commandant, and Dean."

Athletic Policy Change: "Cadets absent for more than half a class day may not participate in games scheduled that day."

Picking up and dropping off Cadets

When waiting for your Day student, please pull up closer to the alumni building. Parking in a cluster near the academic building blocks in the parked vehicles and endagers the Cadets. The Cadets are walking between cars which creates unnecessary risk.

Remind your Cadet to watch where they are walking and to look before crossing the driveway.

Cell Phone Policy

Cellular hot-spots and modem cards, smartphones, I-Watches, and other similar devices that enable Cadets access to the internet outside of the Academy’s Wi-Fi system, or after lights-out, are prohibited.

Boarding Cadets should not bring their cell phones to class. Day Cadets may have a cell phone but it must be turned off throughout the academic day.

Search for and Join the group “ORMA Parents” on Facebook for updates, questions and answers relevant to the group. (be sure to answer each of the questions when requesting membership to the group)

STEAM Lab

STEAM lab opens the new academic year

Academic Dean, Mrs. McKaughan, and IT/cybersecurity teacher, Brian Jones, recently returned from a trip to Chicago. They spent several days touring a facility that has implemented the lab ORMA is opening this academic year. They were trained to facilitate the peer-supported challenges each Cadet must work through.

Our Steam program will support the development of 21-century skills such as persistence, adaptive problem solving, and collaboration. This creates a learning enviroment where failure is accepted and persistence is celebrated. Challenges are centered around Cadet interests and intentionally connects engineering,design and technology laying the groundwork for college or career opportunities.
