Public Health & Emergency Preparedness Updates
September 8, 2022

Dear Community,

We are gearing up for our West Marin Community Response Team Health Fair on Wednesday, 9/14 from 3-6pm at the Dance Palace in Point Reyes. This will be the first of two Health Fairs we will be offering this fall where we will be offering an array of free health services, information and resources to our West Marin communities. Come for Vision Testing, Flu shots, Covid-19 vaccines/boosters (including the new bivalent booster for 50+ walk-ups only), free tests and masks, a mobile Health clinic with health checks and various tests hosted by Ritter, Indigenous Healing, along with numerous informational pop-ups, such as WMSS, Fire Safe Marin, SPAHR, NAMI, Zero Waste Marin, Rolling Root by the Agricultural Institute of Marin, and the Clean Slate Program. Come out and take advantage of these incredible services at no cost, while enjoying free BBQ, snow-cones and popcorn! More information here and in Spanish here.

As we move further into fall without rain in sight yet, we need to be more prepared than ever for a disaster or wildfire. Are you ready for a wildfire evacuation? Here are the top tips to be prepared.

1. Sign up for Alert Marin so you know when evacuation is needed
2. Pack a go-bag, don't forget to make one for your pets!
3. Make a plan and go through your Evacuation checklist. Here is the checklist in
Spanish.
4. Know your evacuation route. Check out your neighborhood-specific map here
5. Practice!

Go to www.firesafemarin.org to learn more.

Today, Thursday, 9/8, there is an opportunity to be vaccinated for MPX from 4:30-7:30pm in San Rafael if you meet eligibility requirements. See information here and in Spanish here.

It is very exciting news the new bivalent Covid-19 vaccine has been approved for those currently eligible. This new booster covers the original variants of Covid-19 as well as BA-4 and BA-5. The first opportunity to receive this updated booster in West Marin is at the Health and Wellness Fair in 9/14! If you cannot make it 9/14, there are other opportunities for the new booster listed on the Marin County Public Health website here. Dr. Matt Willis describes the newly authorized boosters and who should get it here.

Lastly, Marin County Public Health (MCPH) is strongly encouraging residents to take advantage of the Digital Vaccine Record available from the State of California. You can use the digital record as proof of vaccination wherever you go.

Take care and stay safe,
The West Marin Community Response Team

The West Marin Community Response Team teamed up with the Tomales Emergency Response Network (TERN) at Founders Day in Tomales, to spread Disaster Preparation Information, COVID Tests & PPE and a whole lot of joy!
Dr. Matt Willis describes the newly authorized Omicron (bivalent) booster, how it differs from prior vaccines, who should get it, and how this new booster will be rolled out in Marin.

Digital Vaccine Cards

Marin County Public Health (MCPH) is strongly encouraging residents to take advantage of the Digital Vaccine Record available from the State of California. You can use the digital record as proof of vaccination wherever you go.

Your Vaccine Card on Your Phone

Did you know you can easily download a digital version of your COVID-19 vaccine card onto your cellphone? The digital record includes the same information as the paper vaccine card.

Click Here to set up this up. You will then put in the following information:

  • name,
  • date of birth,
  • mobile number or email,
  • create a 4-digit pin.

You will then receive a text with a link. Select the link and re-enter the 4-digit pin you chose. This final step will take you to your scannable QR Code and details that can be confirmed visually without a QR reader. Save the record to your camera roll or in an app like wallet.

Done! Present the record wherever proof of vaccination is requested.
