DECODING THE MYSTERY OF CATS
Stephen Quandt, a Feline Behaviorist, FFCP, most recently with the Animal Care Centers of NYC and also the ASPCA.org has created a feline behavior webinar for the public that explains cat behavior from the perspective of the evolutionary and adaptive forces that help shape their lives.  Stephen has given hundreds of behavior consults in person and over Zoom, many of them through his presence on the Airbnb Online Experience platform.  He will be presenting a Zoom presentation through the Stevens County Library on September 15th at 6:30 pm, Decoding the Mysteries of Cats, or Why Cats do what they do!  This presentation will be through Zoom and the public is welcome to come to the library to view it or watch it from their home.  Registration is required to view from home.  Check out the library's website or FB page (events) to register today.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month! Update your library account or register for a new Stevens County Library card for a chance to win drawing prizes! Bring a friend to sign-up or update their account for additional chances to win.

CIRCLE TIME STARTS IN SEPTEMBER!
Register your birth through 5-year-old for Circle Time Storytime! Miss Stacey reads stories, teaches songs and rhymes, and leads children on all kinds of fun adventures. Circle Time is Wednesdays at 10:00am beginning September 7. Registration forms are available in the library or online at www.stevenscountylibrary.com/CircleTime

MAHJONG CLASS

READ & CHAT BOOK CLUB
The Read & Chat book club pick for September is Parrot in the Oven by Victor Martinez.  It is a story of a poor boy growing up and finding himself during a pivotal time in his life.  We will meet Sept 29th at 10 am to discuss this book.  Call the library to get a copy reserved, 620-544-2301.
COZY MYSTERY BOOK CLUB
The Cozy Mystery book club choice is At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon.  This book tells the story of a charming village where the local single rector is wading through his day to day life, when he finds it complicated by a young child, a jewelry theft, a 60-year-old secret, and a dog the size of a sofa.  To reserve this book, please contact the library at 620-544-2301.
AFTER SCHOOL GAME TIME
Fridays after school, the library will make board and card games available for kids to play while they wait for their ride. Staff *might* even be convinced to play, too. ;)
We have over 100 games available for checkout on an adult card. Stop by to see what we have!
STORYWALK MONTHLY DRAWING
Win prizes for your family by visiting our Storywalk at the Stevens County Gas & Historical Museum walking trail! Start at the old school building and head north, reading the story as you walk around the trail. Every time you visit, use your smartphone to fill out the participation survey and we will enter you in a monthly prize drawing. You can also send photos of your family enjoying the Storywalk to stacey@stevenscountylibrary.com

GENEALOGY RESEARCH
Elder and Sister Hovey from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints are doing family history research at the Stevens County Library.  They are available to help patrons with their own genealogy research questions on the second Thursday of the month at 2 pm and on the last Saturday of the month at 2 pm.  If you have any questions, please call the Library at 620-544-2301.

SPORTING EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT
It's time to get outside, so make sure to take advantage of the library's activity equipment!  We have birdwatching kits, tennis rackets, pickleball rackets, and disk golf sets for checkout!

 

1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN 
Now is the time to get your kids excited to read!  All kids who haven't entered Kindergarten yet are welcome to join the library's 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge.  Stop by the library and pick up a bookmark to keep track of the books you read to your kids.  Every 100 books, stop by the library and get their picture taken for facebook and the newspaper!  Keep going until you hit 1000!!  It's just that simple.  Ask the library staff if you have any questions
