Have you tried our beef sticks, friend?

This week we ok'd the final version of a label update for the popular product. Here's the old version...
Using our beef, these sticks are handcrafted and packaged by the fine folks at Cloud’s Meats in Carthage, located just outside of Joplin.

Their manager called earlier this summer with a request for us to add a sequential numbering element to the labels. (see it above the bar code in pic below) It would help track lots in case a recall was ever needed.

Ian & I have been dreaming of ways to expand our retail outlets for the beef sticks. This was the perfect time to add a bar code to the product, opening up the opportunity to sell in larger retailers.

Hey fun fact - bar codes must be purchased! Who knew!?

Why we're at it, let's freshen up the whole label's look, making it easier for customers to read at a glance.

Luckily, we work with the awesome folks at LabelTeq in Springfield. So I could visit their shop and look Tristan's shoulder as we made tweaks to get to the final draft.

I'm sure she loved that.😆 But it was so much easier than doing it over email!

Here's the final versions we approved...
(yes I know the bar code for Hot is pink -  that's the dummy bar code that needs switched)
🔹 1 pound of beef yields 2.75 packages of Beef Sticks
🔹 Each manufacturing run uses 200 lb of beef at once
🔹 Food labels must go through a state/federal approval process
🔹 Beef Sticks are gluten free
🔹 No refrigeration is needed & 6 mo + shelf life (big selling points for retailers!)
We're making preparations for a few big production runs going into fall and the Christmas season.

Yes: I just went there 🎄🫣

Blue Silo will again be a vendor at Pumpkin Daze and Apple Butter Makin' Days in October. Selling Beef Sticks at festivals is a way to share about our farm with potential new customers. They're a hot seller as a snack or a Christmas present.

Because we must produce in such big quantities, it made sense to develop a wholesale offering for our Beef Sticks. We work with more than a dozen different retail partners year round.

Some of them have been asking if we're doing Beef Stick gift boxes for Christmas. So it's not just me looking at the holiday season already!

It's pretty cool to be a part of other area small businesses! See the complete list of retailers >

One thing before I go...

This coming Friday I'm launching a new email that will solely focus on our products. It will be your go-to guide to know what's featured, what's sold out, what's new, and when new bundles are available online & in store. I hope it makes shopping with us even easier.

I'll still be dropping by your inbox every Sunday morning with my usual bit of wisdom and charming humor 🤣

Your farmer,
-Kassi

On the Farm 📸

At the moment we've got 125 birds on feed slated for harvest on September 30. They're well past the fluff ball baby chick stage and smack dab in the middle of, what I like to call, the "awkward teenage stage". 😆 Half their body has mature feathers and the other half is baby chick fuzz making them look half naked.

With only 2 in their household so a 1/8 Beef will last them 6-8 months. They will pop in the Farm Store to grab specialty cuts like our Smoked Pork Chops, since they live just a couple miles away from the farm.
