Summer Art Adventures
It's been a wonderful summer of painting adventures in nature. This has given me the opportunity to refine my lightweight plein air setup, which I will be using at the Chincoteague Plein Air Event in Virginia and sharing at the Hameau Artist Retreat in September.

This summer, I've balanced both my pastel and oil plein air painting, perfecting certain techniques using new surfaces and a palette knife. I will be bringing many of these paintings for the teaching exhibit at the Hameau Artist Retreat.

Announcing Hameau Scholarship
My passion for teaching and plein air makes me very aware of how enriching painting in nature can be for the spirit. For the last 20 years, I have been quietly gifting Hameau scholarships to artists of all ages. I want to officially announce these scholarships and invite adult artists to apply for the September scholarship by sending me an email (SNicholasArt@gmail.com) about why you want to attend. 

The adult scholarship is in honor and memory of my father, Tom Nicholas, who was a thriving pastel artist well into his eighties, and attended the Hameau Artist Retreat many times over the years.

Hameau Mission Statement

Hameau Farm captures and inspires the creative spirit with its unique studio and second floor deck with views of pastures and mountain landscapes. Friendly animals and nearby creeks provide unlimited sources for plein air painting, and the great food and camaraderie compel artists to return year after year. This retreat includes plein air painting for all mediums and levels, daily demos in the Hameau Barn Studio, individual instruction, critiques, free art supply samples, and personal plans.
One of the best perks of attending Susan's classes, workshops, and retreats is the access to tons of free art supply samples. Susan has worked hard to get national art companies to back all of her workshops. This unique opportunity for Susan's students enables exploration of expensive fine artist quality materials for all mediums.
