The 7 Funders Challenge

After the launch of the computer centre, Nedbank committed to investing in HOPE Recovered's youth. This attracted the youth in the township, and the group began to grow. The big group spending the whole Saturday at the founders' home comes with many sacrifices and challenges. HOPE Recovered's dream of a centre in the township could solve many of the current challenges. The 7 Founders Challenge could bring this dream to life. Take your hands out of your pockets and help us make it happen.

7 Funders Challenge

The vision of HOPE Recovered is to establish a fountain of hope for the young generation. Let us rescue them from falling into a hustling lifestyle, trying to survive without making their lives count or achieving significance. To escape the poverty cycle, they need access to high-quality educational assistance, the opportunity to learn vocational and entrepreneurial skills, and, most of all, to find purpose in life as they follow Jesus. They have the potential to make a significant difference in their families and communities as they follow God's beautiful and satisfying plan for their lives.

With only 7 individuals, organisations or companies who make a significant contribution of 75'000 CHF, USD or EUR, HOPE Recovered can acquire a 5ha property on the edge of the township to establish such a fountain of hope. Are you one of these outstanding individuals?
Pledge your support today and enable us to submit an offer to buy the property. Read more about this challenge.
Is this the future fountain of hope pouring into the neglected and disadvantaged community of Lethabong (meaning: a place of joy), replacing the hopelessness with joy and bringing its name to life?

Life skills classes with Nedbank

The laptops remained closed during the first few sessions with Nedbank in the computer centre. The facilitators started with life skills lessons covering topics like planning your future, goal setting, dealing with setbacks, emotions, etc. The first session took place in the computer centre, but the room was already very packed with 11 teenagers. We are glad summer is back in Pretoria, and the classes can take place outside. For the subsequent 2 sessions, the number of participants increased to 15, and we could not fit them all in the computer centre.
The increase of participants raised a few challenges for HOPE Recovered:
  1. Transport: The 7-seater car is not big enough anymore. More than 2 trips to pick up the teens in the township are not possible as it would take too much time.
  2. The 5 laptops sponsored by Nedbank will not be enough when we start with computer literacy classes.
  3. The computer centre needs to accommodate more participants.
  4. As the teens are at the founder's home for the whole day, these young people need to eat (and they eat a lot). But the kitchen is not laid out for this number of people.
Please pray with us for good solutions.

Youth Discipleship

After the session with Nedbank in the morning, HOPE Recovered continued with the group in the afternoon with their Youth Discipleship program. Also, the living room became too small, and we had to move outside. We are grateful for the space around the house and the good weather so we can meet outside.
The attraction of the lessons with Nedbank keeps adding new participants to our group, and the Gospel of Jesus is reaching more young people.

Tears after confession

We started again with the curriculum that we developed last year. In one of the sessions, we discussed whether the Bible is the Word of God or just a book written by some human beings. As we asked who believed God inspired the Bible, one of the teenagers said no and immediately started sobbing. There was clearly some pain in his heart. One of the volunteers prayed with him later on in private. The following week, he testified that things had changed in his life after the prayer. "I think it is like a miracle", he said, "now I know that God is real."
Please pray for the teenagers. They are facing many challenges at home when it comes to education and faith.

Library

Raphael is now often the only adult at the library. Some teenagers pop in almost daily to do school work or assist Raphael with the children. He is usually reading with individual children to boost them on their level. It is good to see that more and more children are taking books home to read.

Please pray for the children who struggle to concentrate and learn.

From Good Intention to Good Action

Did you ever wish you could make a difference but didn't know how? Here are some ideas to step into significance:
  • Visit the expanded Library for children in the township. We would love to take you on tour.
  • Join the board of HOPE Recovered. We need a treasurer and a secretary.
  • Inspire others about the work of HOPE Recovered, raise awareness of the challenges of children and youth in the township and raise funds for the necessary HOPE Recovered Center in the township.
  • Offer your time and get involved in the lives of the children and youth as a volunteer.
Don't hesitate to get in touch with HOPE Recovered if you are interested in building the Kingdom of God with us - for His glory, for His honour and His praise.

Support a talented teenager

One of the teenagers who attends our programs makes cars out of wire. This children's toy comes with a steering wheel to drive it and can open doors as the real one. He wants to use his talent and start a small business. He said he needs about R3000 (180 USD) to extend their house so that he and his older brother can have a room for themselves. The parents with their 4 children currently live in a 2 room shack.
Buy this truck for R450 (26.50 USD) and support this young man. Contact Raphael if you are interested.
