Kyle Idleman was watching a documentary about a woman who was thirty-four years old. She developed a tumor that grew to twice her initial body weight. How big did it grow, you might ask?

Three hundred pounds. That’s right. A three hundred pound tumor.

As they prepared to remove it, people wondered why she waited so long to act. Apparently, she thought it would just go away on its own!

To me this is a reminder that when you turn a blind eye to reality your life gets worse, not better.

And yet, that is what we often do.

Reality is defined by God. So is truth. When we pretend he isn’t there, or that the Bible is out-of-date, or that his teachings are optional, we are walking down a path of increasing darkness, deception and despair.

Here is reality and truth: God is real. God’s character and will is revealed in a book we call the Bible. He created you and loves you. He wants you to be in an eternal and saving relationship with himself. And if you already know him, he wants you to grow in Christlikeness as you get in on the ways he is bringing heaven to earth. He wants you to be a disciple and to make disciples by the power of his Spirit.

It is a life of power and peace and purpose!

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever” (Psalm 118:1).

When we turn a blind eye to reality, life gets worse not better.

Let’s live with eyes wide open to the goodness of God!
