We're so proud to announce the publication of our updated guide, now including information for farmers markets, farmstands, foodhubs, WIC, and more!

The Alaska Farmers Market Association (AFMA)
believes that we all have a role to play in ensuring local food is accessible to marginalized and underserved communities.
Our hope is that this toolkit helps farmers, vendors, market managers, and other stakeholders understand how they can contribute to a more equitable food system. By accepting payment from food assistance programs, markets can play a critical part in making community members from all income levels feel welcomed and included. Clients are able to purchase high-quality, local fruits and vegetables while stimulating the local economy with federal dollars.

More Alaskans can build community connections by shopping at a farmers’ market and getting to know the people that grow, raise, and catch their food.
This toolkit
provides information you’ll need to start a market from scratch or to grow your market with more programs, along with helpful information, tips, and templates for running a successful market. To navigate the toolkit, follow the chapter number and names along the left side of the screen. There are multiple chapters, each with subcategories that will open when you hover over the chapter name.
In each chapter, you will find downloadable resources that you can adapt to your market’s needs. This toolkit is a living document and is meant to be updated regularly, so please send us any recommendations you may have or resources that you’d like to share.

AFMA Storytelling Workshop with Story Works Alaska.

In-Person. October 8th & 15th, 9AM-12PM.

This FREE (registration required) workshop will take place on Saturday October 8th and Saturday October 15, 2022. Each session will run from 9am-12pm. You must be able to attend both sessions. The workshop will be facilitated by Story Works staff and youth storytellers. No preparation or prior experience in storytelling or media production is required.

This workshop is designed for farmers and AFMA members who would like to develop a personal narrative that can be used to promote their business or connect with their community. Every person has a unique story to share. Join us to find your story, and develop tools for sharing that story with your community.

Story Works Alaska will support you in developing a 3-5 minute oral narrative. You will have an opportunity to record this narrative to be used for PSAs, video promotions and more!
