Walgett Employment & Vocation Strategy
ThinkPlace working with Regional NSW will engage with the Walgett community to capture a vision of what it means for individuals to flourish and communities to thrive supporting the community to create a local employment and vocation strategy.
ThinkPlace is a leading social innovation and strategic design agency in the service of creating vibrant communities, strong economies, sustainable environment and trusted institutions.
We are not experts in the challenges and opportunities your community faces; we believe that every community has the potential to solve and realise these. We bring our design expertise and partner with communities building design thinking capabilities enabling local innovative solutions to emerge.
Why This Project Is Important
Breaking the cycle of disadvantage, inequality, and poverty requires a future where everyone who wants to learn and work can. It requires a future where work is more than a job, it is a pathway that creates meaning, celebrates cultures and provides hope.
Pop-up Hub
To support local engagement, workshops, planning and experimenting ThinkPlace will launch a Cultural & Community Pop-Up Hub in the former Café 64 site.
Café 64 a much-loved social enterprise that provided employment to people with a disability and included a space for local Indigenous art and craft closed suddenly in 2020, will provide the space for this hub. Once again, this space will serve a social purpose for community to connect, engage, plan and design a future for Walgett where everyone can flourish in a thriving community.
· Set to open August 22nd to 8th September.
This space will server three primary purposes:
1. Space to engage the community in conversations, workshops, co-design activities and prototyping ideas.
2. Space to prototype a Cultural Centre.
3. Space for ThinkPlace staff to base themselves from to connect with community.
ThinkPlace will not be running cultural centre activities this will be led by local Walgett Community Working Party.
Why This Approach
The pop-up Hub provides a shared space to work with community to explore ideas, resources and capabilities required to create a shared vision of what a good life means and identify practical steps to get there. It will help build authentic and trusting relationships creating the conditions for collaboration, partnerships and innovation that is essential for social and economic development.
