The Next Iteration Of Salon Programming
It’s been a week since we announced our call for curators and we’re elated by your thoughtful words. Whether you sent an encouraging note or a few preliminary ideas, the responses from our community made it clear we’re on the right track.
The Salon isn’t just a community — it’s a space for sharing, inspiration, and development among women and those that identify as women from all walks of life. We want our series and events to be as diverse and galvanizing as the individuals that make up our collective.
That’s the goal of our Salon Curators Program. And if the replies to last week’s newsletter are any indication, the new, seasonal opportunity will enable us (and you!) to evolve our programming and continue to do just that.
Keep reading for the nitty gritty details and how to officially apply to The Salon Curators Program!
Until next week,
—Meredith

Help Craft Our Programming!
Over the past three years, we’ve experimented with all different types of events — from a food justice summit, women in design series, and hypnotherapy workshop to a monthly BIPOC meet-up, book reading and discussion, and hiking excursion. At The Salon, we take pride in our open-minded approach and want to thank everyone who joined us, hosted, or invited a friend.
In the last few months, we’ve reflected on feedback from our summer survey and chatted with members and stakeholders to continue to get a clearer picture of the needs of our community and where we can add the most value.
Enter: our Salon Curators Program.
Fundamentally, The Salon is about shared ownership of a platform — a platform that helps you grow, build community, and connect with the women and ideas that make up our city.
That’s why we’re looking for 3 enterprising female teachers and tastemakers to develop the next season of Salon programming. Curators will design a slate of 3-5 events — field trips, panels, workshops — around a topic pertinent to Pittsburgh’s women. Rather than spearhead and lead each event themselves, we ask that curators showcase local female innovators. Think entrepreneurs, creatives, healers, activists, chefs, and more.
By taking a new, multi-level approach, we hope to highlight our curators as thought leaders within a given domain. They will then pass the mic to their regional role-model-girl-crushes-mentors, who will share their wisdom with event attendees.
More information and (application instructions) can be found in the linked Call for Curators. Start brainstorming — proposals are due by October 1, 2022.
We look forward to receiving and sharing your vision!
A big thank you to Steel City Rowing — especially the amazing coach Jenn Langzettel — for a great partnership and a successful rowing series. Want to join in the fun? You don’t have to wait until next summer.
We’ve added two fall dates — September 29th and October 6 — to the calendar. Jump in a kayak with us and enjoy views of the city from the water! Registration opens next week.
