City of Boise Announces Grant Recipients for Fiscal Year 2023

Boise, ID – The City of Boise is thrilled to announce grant fund recipients for the Fiscal Year 2023 cycle. 27 recipients will receive funding to total $112,500 for cultural projects that occur between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023, and benefit Boise residents.
 
The City of Boise's Department of Arts & History Grant program supports those in both established and emerging cultural fields with initiatives that nurture a strong and equitable cultural community in Boise as part of efforts to create a city for everyone. Grants are reviewed by a panel and awarded based on quality, community benefit, and management.
 

$5,000 Awards


African Community DevelopmentAfrican Basket Weaving Project – engages women who arrived through the refugee process to learn new skills with economic growth potential, pass on traditions, and build community.  

Boise Contemporary Theater5x5 Reading Series to introduce new scripts and provide low-cost access to live theater. 

Campfire Theater Collective: Production by emerging theater group of a new work, Big Bang Playground.

Christian Winn: Story Forward projects and events to showcase poets, performance artists, podcasters, writers, and storytellers.

Downtown Boise AssociationSupersized First Thursdays to support downtown roving performers November 2022 – May 2023.

*Idaho Concerts in Care: Free, professional in-house concerts for residents of independent and assisted-living care homes in Boise.

Idaho Dance Theatre: New Dances, New Faces public dance performances and collaborations introducing new artistic leadership.

Idaho Shakespeare FestivalAccess Program to create opportunities for those with barriers to attend and/or engage with ISF performances and educational offerings.

*Indonesian IdahoIndonesian Cultural and Heritage Day celebration with traditional music, dance, and cuisine.

*International Rescue CommitteeRefugee Youth Music Program to help orient recent arrivals through the refugee process with music and community building.

Lost Grove Brewing: Free Neighborhood Summer Concert Series, in collaboration with the Morrison Center, to bring live music to different city parks throughout Boise.

Off Center Dance Project: Production of a short film that integrates dance with outdoor public art to premiere at MING Studios that will also be available to view online.

Radio Boise: Community engagement, events, and live performances that showcase local and touring artists.

Stars of Steinway: Rachmaninoff Birthday Party Concert featuring two internationally renowned, world-class solo pianists, Fei-Fei and Stevin Lin.

*The Makatas Heart Foundation: Support for spring rehearsals and season performances that launch with the annual Mother's Day Party.
 

$4,500 Awards


*Boise Modern Chinese School: Chinese Traditional Dance performances featuring folk and classical genres.

*Brett Perry: Outreach to and inclusion of local and regional Indigenous Tribes to participate in Dance Boise (in partnership with the Morrison Center), a community-building event that features local dance professionals.

Starbelly School of Dance: Rak of Ages, an all-ages interactive dance celebration with professionally led workshops to learn about Arabic music, dance, and culture.
 

$4,000 Award


*Treasure Valley Children's Theater: Free mobile theater events at Boise City Parks to engage Boise youth and families.
 

$3,500 Award


Kevin McTeague: Free Baroque music concert with local and traveling professional musicians using traditional tools and methods practiced in the 17th and 18th centuries.
 

$3,000 Awards


Colossal Cinematic Showcase: Premiere of short films at a Boise theater to engage local filmmakers and provide opportunities to network and see their work on the big screen.

The Boise ChordsmenIdaho Youth Barbershop Festival that congregates 900-1,000 local and regional students (over half from Boise) for choral education and group performances at the Morrison Center.
 

$2,500 Awards


Ballet IdahoLearning Through Dance program at Boise schools.

Opera IdahoOpera in the Park summer event at Gene Harris Bandshell with free access.

TRICA: Scholarships for summer arts education programs.
 

$2,000 Award


208 EnsembleSoundpainting: Composing Education pilot high school orchestra program to expand students’ concepts of composing music and playing classical string instruments.
 

$1,000 Award


*Janelle Wilson – Expressercize classes that infuse artistic practices, connection, and collaboration to help participants learn tools to strengthen resilience and emotional health.
