Austin Community College’s equity leaders have created a new Certificate in Nonprofit
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice, which aim to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment within nonprofit organizations where race, ethnicity, gender, and other human differences are viewed as professional and organizational strengths.
Convened by the college’s Nonprofit Austin and Center for Nonprofit Studies, the working group, with the assistance of Dr. Froswa’ Booker-Drew, CEO of the Restoration and Reconciliation Foundation, developed the Certificate’s 10 sessions, which will be led by Dr. Booker-Drew, and ACC equity leaders:
- Larry Davis, Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer
- Dr. Eric Nathan, Dean, Faculty Development and Evaluation, TLED
- Chelsea Biggerstaff, Interim Manager, Faculty Development, TLED
- Dr. Khayree Williams, Director Truth, Racial Healing, & Transformation Campus Center
- Dr. Samuel Echevarria-Cruz, Associate Dean DEI Instructional initiatives; Professor, Sociology
- Dr. Gary Moreno, Director, El Centro,
The certificate is one of nine nonprofit certificates offered by Nonprofit Austin and Center for Nonprofit Studies, and is staffed by the Center’s Coordinator.
Barry Silverberg, Nonprofit Austin and Center for Nonprofit Studies Executive Director, noted “This Certificate is part of our Center’s inclusion initiatives to educate and motivate nonprofit leadership to move beyond statements and engage in the difficult, and necessarily painful personal and organizational work to create anti-racist environments that allow all people to engage in doing good.”
