President's Message

Dear Community,

It is difficult to believe that September is upon us. Where exactly did the year go? Once again, we enter the month of Elul and the High Holy Days are upon us. Unlike recent years, we can once again hold services in-person at St. Mark’s in Los Olivos. As those who have attended services at St. Mark’s know, the windows and doors can be opened to allow fresh air to flow through. In fact, if the weather is chilly, please bring a sweater, especially for the evening services. For those unable to attend, for whatever reason, we will have a one-way Zoom set up. This means you can hear and see the Rabbi but not interact. If you would like to participate this way, please drop me a line.

What excites me greatly – the return of our highly successful Erev Rosh Hashanah potluck and our Break-the-fast at the conclusion of Neilah (end of Yom Kippur). More details will follow but here are the basics:
  • Sunday, Sept. 25 @5:30 is the potluck followed by services at 7:00
  • Wednesday, Oct. 5 potluck after Neilah (to break the fast!!)
    • In past years, the Break-the-fast potluck has been complete with many families’ favorite kugels!!! So many different recipes, Ashkenazic and Sephardic – all a delight.

For those of you who have seen or heard Rabbi Debi’s sermons and Cantor Judy’s amazing voice, you know HHD services will be personally meaningful. For me, Rosh Hoshana and Yom Kippur are time for reflection and forgiveness and to forge a new or different path. I’ve always felt it a renewal of body and spirit.

If at any time you have questions or concerns, please drop me a line. Please know, we will have security present for all services.

I hope life is treating you kindly and I look forward to seeing many of you soon.

Susie

How to RSVP for the Pre Erev Rosh Hashanah service potluck

It will be so good to get together to usher in the high holy days with a delightful potluck. For planning and set up purposes, we need to know how many are coming and what they are bringing for our meal.

To RSVP please use this link to email Shoshanah susanmori2@aol.com and provide the following information by Friday September 23rd:
  • Names of everyone in your group
  • What you are bringing – if it is gluten free, please label it as such for our teens who cannot eat gluten
