Vancouver Japanese School Entrance Ceremony Information
Dear Kinder morning class parents,
Please allow us to extend greetings on behalf of the staff and Board of Directors of the Vancouver Japanese Language School and Japanese Hall.
Congratulations on your child's enrolment, and thank you for choosing VJLS for your child's Japanese education. We see Japanese education as a long-term engagement with students, parents, and the community. For many, this is a life-long, mutually supportive relationship with many rewards, both personal and practical. We hope that you will join us in this ongoing cultural endeavour.
The entrance ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 10 at 9:00 a.m. Please join us.
【Gathering】 Kinder morning class students and their parents are asked to gather by 9:00 a.m. in the family room, located in front of the kitchen. Teachers and volunteers will escort you from the entrance; please tell them that your child's class is “Kinder morning". Leave your child with their homeroom teacher in the family room, and join the other parents and guardians the hall for the ceremony.
When the entrance ceremony starts, Kinder, Elementary Grade 1, and Fundamental A students will enter, in that order. Please greet them with applause. The ceremony will end around 10 o’clock. At the very end we will take a group photo; students and parents will then go up to the classroom with the teacher and leave the students’ belongings in the classroom. The students will have classes until 12 o'clock. Parents will disperse from the kinder classroom.
【Drop off / Pick up】 Please return to the hall at 12:00 p.m. for picking up. The students will come down with their teacher, so please remember the teacher's face. From September 17th and throughout the year, drop-off is at 9:00 am in the Kinder room, and pick-up at 12:00 p.m.in the Hall. Please call the school in case of absence or delay: 604 254 2551.
【What to bring】 After the entrance ceremony, there will be regular classes until 12 o'clock. Your child should bring a snack and a drink in a water bottle. We are nut-free school, so do not bring nuts.
【Parking】 Unfortunately there is no parking available for VJLS parents.
【Lunch】 VJLS volunteers, Kitchen Momz, cook lunches every Saturday for fundraising. Takeout items will be sold in the kitchen from 11:40 a.m. You can also dine at school. Normally, the hall is open from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm and the tables are arranged. On the day of the entrance ceremony, however, the gathering of the afternoon classes starts at 1:00 pm so we will clean up the tables early.
