Below are some highlights of GreenTown's work.

Plant trees. improve air quality.

With your help, we've planted 311 trees! Trees not only add beauty to your yard and our community but they provide habitat, reduce erosion and sequester and store carbon from the atmosphere, helping to mitigate climate change.

More kids on bikes. Less air toxins. Breathe easier.

We help more kids get around town by bike through our ReCycle Bike Drive and our School WoW! programs. This means fewer cars on the road! But let's not forget about the grownups. We also offer bike parking at major events, bike tours and night bike rides to remind you how much fun it is to get back on your bike! Join our Historic Bike Tour on September 18 here!

An electrifying future. Lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

GreenTown envisions a clean, green electric future and is working on ways to help us get there. Wanna try out a clean electric appliance? GreenTown has an induction stove to borrow. Have a greater interest in helping whole buildings go clean and green? GreenTown works on viable local policy solutions for greening our homes and businesses. What about getting around? GreenTown provides practical education to encourage the switch to electric vehicles. Community, water-saving gardens. Less watering helps with the drought.

This past year, GreenTown volunteers revamped and expanded the Woodland Library garden with drought-tolerant plants, an irrigation system and mulch. A self-guided tour now helps library visitors and passers-by learn what types of plants to consider for a climate-suitable garden, increasingly important as the planet heats up – witness our 100+ degree temperatures this week.

A zero-waste vision!

GreenTown has been working on two key initiatives to advance zero waste. The first is zero-waste party packs. If you’re having a party, don’t purchase disposables, borrow GreenTown’s party packs instead! We’ve also been working with The Terraces of Los Altos on reducing their landfill waste and with the work we've done so far, we're very hopeful that we can considerably increase recycling and composting!

Eating greener. For the planet.

Eating lower on the food chain has incredible health benefits, it’s good for the animals, and it's good for the planet! This year our Eating Green team created a lunch club to help members discover restaurants in the region that are rich in plant-based foods. Vegan curious? Join our Plant-based Dairy Tasting on Sept. 10.
