Embrace the Grace - Weekly Reflection

Are we human beings or human doings?

Hmmm! Good question. How easy it is for any one of us to get swallowed up in the rat race of busy, busy, busy. Our current culture champions the fury of do, do, do. However, in all this, we risk losing sight of who we are. We are human beings made in the image and likeness of God.

Corrie ten Boom wrote, “If the devil cannot make us bad, he will make us busy.”

She nails it. The enemy of God and of human beings is going full tilt in our culture to make us bad and busy. Our challenge as Christian disciples is not to cooperate with such opposition to sanctity. The human soul needs rest and prayer. Our being needs attention, and we receive this soul-nurturing attention by embracing the grace of the spiritual life: prayer, sacraments, and service.

Being precedes doing. What we do flows from who we are. Make time today to attend to your being, and may your doing flow from your relationship with Christ.
