Conference “BlaQ in Action” hosted by UC Berkeley on October 14th-16th, 2022 Register at bit.ly/freetravel22 by Friday, SEPT 9 at 11:59pm PST for FREE travel!
The UC Berkeley Gender Equity Resource Center and African American Student Development are hosting the annual BLAQOUT! Conference to celebrate the intersection of African Diaspora and 2STLGBQ+ (Two-Spirit, Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer) communities! This conference is designed for Black 2STLGBQ+ persons to share knowledge and experiences with one another about our particular lives.
This three-day conference has a rich history in the UC system as a time for affinity, solidarity, and celebration of African Diaspora and 2STLGBQ+ (Two-Spirit, Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer+) communities! BLAQOUT! is a structured conference featuring workshops from undergraduate and graduate scholars, staff, community members, and activists who are part of the BlaQueer Diaspora. It is also designed to create space for networking, empowerment, and critical community building among Black QTs (Queer and Trans people) across the state of California. The theme of this year’s conference will be BlaQ in Action, which celebrates the intrinsic power of the many manifestations of our BlaQness, encompassing all intersections of our complex and diverse identities.

| | MiraCosta Resources | | Reminder: Update Your Demographic DataThe LGBTQIA+ Equity team encourages all employees to update your voluntary demographic data that was recently updated to include sexual orientation and gender identity! Updating your voluntary demographic data gives the college valuable data to explore and utilize to ensure we align our practices with what our communities need. You can view testimonials from some of our LGBTQIA+ community on the importance of this demographic data here. The 2019 Campus Climate survey magnified experiences of our community across the district amongst employees and students. LGBTQIA+ data for students at the district is getting stronger and stronger, let’s make sure our community data for employees is just as strong! All employees should have received an alert on Workday to update your information and the deadline to update is September 16th. For more information, please refer to the attached email communication here from Vice President Ng. If you have questions regarding Workday, please email HR_Department@miracosta.edu. If you have follow-up questions regarding our LGBTQIA+ community on campus, please reach back to us at lgbtqia@miracosta.edu. |

| | | | | | | | Welcome the Fall 2022 Semester! In each LGBTQIA+ Equity Newsletter, you will find a Counselor’s Corner section where I, Cyndy Garcia (she/ella), LGBTQIA+ ASE Counselor Coordinator, will share a tip and spotlight a resource. Tip The beginning of the Fall semester is always a busy time for students as you try to solidify your class schedule and ensure you’re on track with your educational goals. If you’ve tried scheduling a counseling appointment, but weren’t able to due to limited appointments, please remember that we have appointments reserved for LGBTQIA+ ASE Program students. Appointments are available on Tuesdays from 1pm – 4pm and Thursdays from 3pm – 7pm.
You can schedule an appointment by: 1) Emailing me (cgarcia@miracosta.edu) directly with your name, ID number, and when you’d like to meet 2) Communicate with our Counseling staff that you’d like to schedule an LGBTQIA+ appointment with Cyndy Garcia. For privacy reasons, emailing me would work best, but again, our Counseling staff can assist you. 3) Connecting with fran via email, phone, or in-person that you’d like to specifically schedule an appointment with me! | | For this newsletter’s spotlight, I want to take this opportunity to re-introduce myself. I’m here to support you as you pursue your academic, career, and personal goals. We can discuss on- and off-campus resources or we can just chat! I hope the Fall 2022 semester goes well, and I look forward to meeting you! |
