Hello Valley Youth Service Providers!

Spring is definitely in the air and we are welcoming of the milder weather and longer days ahead of us. We also been busy for preparing our response to Victoria's Youth Month being September with organising our YouthFest; which you can find out more information in this newsletter below. We also took note that it is also a busy time for young people, especially as they gear towards end of year exams at school and university. Please keep this in mind and check in with their wellbeing and offer what support is possible with you and your organisation. Especially that this week in which R U OK Day is honoured. 

However, we have an array of activities during the school holidays that could offer a well-deserved break and social catch up for them so please check below. 

Opportunities for Young People:


VALLEY YOUTH - YOUTH FEST
To celebrate Youth Month and the end of school holidays, Valley Youth are throwing a festival in Queen's Park! ✌️🎉
📅 Friday 30th September from 12pm to 4pm
📍 Queens Park, Moonee Ponds (near the stage)
🪴 Planting Activity | 💃 Drag Performance | 🎸 Ukulele Workshop |
📖 Zine Making | 🎶 Live Music | 🚚 Food Trucks | ✨ Eco Glitter Station

The event is FREE!

Young people aged 12-25 will also get a token for free food and drinks if they take part in an activity. Limited tokens are available, so first in best dressed. 🍽️ Arrive early to ensure you don't miss out.

This is a fully supervised drug, alcohol, smoke and vaping free event, supported by the State Government as part of Victorian Youth Month.

We acknowledge our event is held on the land of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin nation. This was and always will be Aboriginal land. ⚫🟡🔴

VALLEY YOUTH - SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
School holidays are coming up from Monday 19th September to Friday 30th September. Valley Youth is offering a range of fun and cool activities for young people to enjoy. Our list of activities include:

MELBOURNE CITY MISSION - DETOUR & RECCONECT
Early intervention programs supporting young people at risk of or recently experiencing homelessness.

Detour works with young people 12-24 who are displaying risk factors that are known to potentially lead to homelessness. Detour offers support to stabilise current housing and/or explore other housing options. 
Youth Coaches work with young people to create a plan that will assist them in achieving their goals. It is intensive, wrap-around, case management support with 3, 6 or 9 months support periods.
 
Referrals can be accepted from young people, family members, community agencies, schools, police, Centrelink.  Cover the areas of CBD and Western Metro Melbourne.

Reconnect works with young people aged 12 - 18 to stabilise their living situation, achieve family reconciliation, and improve their level of engagement with work, education, training, and their local community.
The key is to engage the young person before the impacts to their life are too hard to come back from.  Provides support for 3 months. Local government areas of Maribyrnong, Brimbank and Moonee Valley.
 
Referrals can be accepted from young people, family members, community agencies, schools, police, Centrelink, child first services and child protection services. Contact Duty Line  PH: 9977 0023

MARIBYRNONG AND MOONEE VALLEY LOCAL LEARNING AND EMPLOYMENT NETWORK - YOUTH MENTORING CAREER PATHWAYS PROGRAM
Applications for the Youth Mentoring Career Pathways program are now open!
If you’re 16 – 24 years old, our mentors can provide career support and guidance and our work placements can give you on-the-job experience.

The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council are looking for enthusiastic people who would like to support the engagement and participation across diverse communities. As part of the Youth Development team, you will support projects, programs and events run for young people aged 12-25 who live, work, study or hang out in Moonee Valley.

WHITELION YOUTH - VOLUNTEER MENTORS WANTED
Whitelion Youth is looking for mentors to support young people in Out of Home Care who are in need of support on their interests, goals and social connections. As a volunteer mentor, you will work with young people aged 10-21 to help them connect into their community and have positive social experiences. Activities might include sport, dance, art and more, and depending on the age of the young person may also include assistance with employment or independent living skills.

RELATIONSHIP MATTERS - FAMILY AND RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING 

Relationship Matters are offering a variety of counselling options to families, couples, and individuals who need mediation to resolve ongoing conflicts within their relationships.

  • Family Counselling: Our counselling can assist your family with a broad range of concerns from parenting struggles through to school issues, friendships and grief and loss. Our qualified relationship counsellors will help you better understand your family’s behaviour to help build happy and respectful family relationships. We can assist you to understand the development needs of your children, at every life stage.
  • Couple's Counselling: Relationship Matters’ can offer you support through these stressful times. Our qualified counsellors, practitioners and educators can bring hope by providing a safe space for you to talk about your concerns, explore solutions, learn new communication skills, connect with your partner or find agreement and resolution.
  • Rainbow Door: Rainbow Door and Relationship Matters have partnered to offer free councelling and mediation to support the LGBTIQA+ communities. Rainbow Door supports members of the LGBTIQA+ communities of all ages and identities with issues and concerns that may include: family and relationship matters, workplace issues such as bullying and discrimination, mental health and wellbeing, family violence, alcohol and other drugs, sexual assault and social isolation.
