Dear Grandmothers,
Many of us are writing postcards, and letters, and doing phonebanking. We thought some of you might be interested in having these two other opportunities to help,
1). We are now in the final run-up to the all-important midterm elections, where just a handful of states will determine the future of Congress and our planet. One of those states is Nevada and 1000 Grandmothers will volunteer in the canvassing efforts in Reno with UNITE HERE (the Culinary Union). If you would like to join us, we will be working in Reno on these dates:
October 10-13
October 21-25
If you are interested, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can coordinate and share information on how to sign up, where to stay, when we will do our training, etc.
This opportunity may not be for all of us: canvassing involves long days and a fair amount of walking, steps, etc. There are costs involved for travel and lodging. But if you feel you can do it, we would love to have you join us!
If you would like to participate but feel it may be too physically demanding, we can discuss alternative rolls – for example, you can support a team of canvassers by driving, organizing materials and/or recording responses in the app that we will be using.

Hear from some of the culinary workers who have taken a leave of absence from their jobs in the hotels and casinos to dedicate themselves to a victory in Nevada.

2). Grandmothers member Jane Lawhon will host a breakout group for Grandmothers from a small but mighty group of phone bankers which has roots in Swing Left and relationships with many campaigns including the DNC, Georgia Democrats, Abrams, Beto & more!
The DNC has great new technology with the Scale to Win predictive dialer, an excellent, accessible, intuitive platform.
The Grandmothers breakout group for phone banking will be every Monday from 3:30 - 5:30 PM, starting Sept. 19 (with the exception of Sept. 26, Rosh Hashanah) through Nov. 7. We'll call into swing states and a zoom room will be open the whole time in case you get into trouble with the technology.
