Hi ECDA Friends,

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, also known as Mental Health Month. It has been observed each May in the United States since 1949. It is a time to raise awareness of those living with mental or behavioral health issues and help reduce the stigma. After the last two years of pandemic living, many people are realizing that stress, isolation, and uncertainty have taken a toll on their well-being. More than ever, it is a time to reflect on our own mental well-being and check in with our loved ones.

In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, El Centro de Amistad hosted its annual virtual Mental Health Conference on May 11. The organization's Mental Health Conference titled 'Culture, Equity & Race in Mental Health', brought together mental health professionals, administrators, students, and families to debunk social issues and improve our community relationships.

As part of our conference, we counted on Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez to lend her support by sharing a special message to the mental health community. Just like Nury Martinez mentions in her video, it is okay to admit we all need help sometimes and should seek professional help. Thank you, Mrs. Martinez, for your support to the mental health community and your inspiring message.
